"Food & God": A Poem
by D Shannahan
God is great on anything like grey poupon
Wastin by the plateful in the food fight but the ref said 'play on'
Gave my pennies up to Denny's but they said 'don't stay long'...
I said 'I'm just tryna finish this song'.
Wanna sell me wanna tell me what to do to be complete
Peace to Pacaveli only God can judge me
Consumin up the telly like we eatin up the beef
Mind turned to jelly breathe like peanut allergies.
Only God can save me from the deli of deceit
Jump out like Alien from the belly of the beast
Appear like the pizza guy with peace love and light
Eatin this burrito like 'damn I love life'
When you ask if I want somethin ain't ready to decline
And if I get excess I kick it down the line
Can't think twice- when I know it comes back twice as nice
They feedin us 'modern man' but can't eat the mice
I just want a piece of land where I can grow some rice.
I ask Christ what the deal is- we've become such realists
Hell's kitchens hiring more janitors to clean the mess
On Craigslist, they keep flaggin my ads, had to relist
Says I need to go shopping can you help my checklist
Get this- like a dinner plate served right in front your face
Dig in mate, just don't skimp on the waiter's tip.
Its a listener's world when advertisements make you go grab a burger
Turn off the burner to reiterate your blood spillin over
Its reached the boiling point better drop the egg in
Humpty Dumpty hit the void- only God can save him.
