Fools

Updated on February 22, 2016

Fools

Backwards from the beginning
It was over from the start
When you stole that kiss from me
You had me by my heart

It wasn't meant to be forever
We were players in a game
But like drunken moths we flew
Towards each other's flame

Unspoken truths lay restless
Fluttering upon our hungry lips
Our breathless secrets captive
Prisoners held unto another kiss

A rhythmic sea of sheets surrounds
As we gasped for precious air
Collapsing against each other
No words are needed as we stare

Your smile is saying "Sorry, I can't stay"
Your eyes are shimmering pools
My lips smile back and whisper
"It's ok, I know love's only for fools"

Haha thanks Pearl! The last line is both debatable and open to interpretation...was she saying she didn't believe in love herself or is she calling herself the fool for being in love?

I enjoyed the rhyme scheme, Luna. Nice poem.
