For My Girl

Updated on November 26, 2013

Daughter

She dances through life,

with spirit and grace.

Free.

She came

right through me

as the best version

of myself.

She is everything

I would want to be.

I have taught her

nothing.

Her bravery and fire are

her own creation.

I am only lucky,

that she grasps my hand,

once in a while,

and takes me along,

as she flies.

Harry Chapin "Tangled Up Puppet"

Thank you Cat! Missed you! But I have been away too for a bit. Life getting in the way of reading and writing! Ugh!I plan to do more, and please return and share anytime!!!

Having a daughter is the best, most frustrating wonderful exasperating.....I could go on! My girl is 8 too. I swear I gave birth to myself....which at times is great, and others i say "Oh, don"t do that It worked out terribly for me!" My son is 6 1/2 and has been easier from birth! Anyway... I fear the teen years! Talk soon Cat and be well!

      Theater girl,

I couldn't take it anymore... I haven't read anything of yours in way too long! :D I'm so glad I came looking; I love this! I have one boy (12) and one girl (8). Everything is different with a daughter. My life changed the day I became mom, but it's even more interesting and at times, bittersweet since having a daughter. The fears seem to have increased now that I have a princess to protect.

Your poem is so beautiful, it brought tears to my eyes!

Up and others ~ Sharing too!

      Cat

I'm sure you aren't giving yourself enough credit. You probably rubbed off on her more than you think.

Thank you for visiting! I have enjoyed your work here and I am thrilled that you stopped by! And yes, it amazes me everyday that my children learn and grow and already surpass my expectations in every way! They are just lent to us for a very short time!

This is a most delightful tribute to both motherhood and to you and your precious daughter!

Isn't it the truth? We must stand amazed at what individuals our progeny are and become, right down to great-grandchildren and great-great grands, too, I'm sure! Since my two eldest great-grandchildren are in their late teens, who knows? Maybe . . . :-)

We must be that! I enjoy your work as well! As for the kind of mom I am...who knows? I just show them love, no matter who they are....even if I don't always understand them! I figure they will figure it out better than me!

We must be kindred "mom/poets." Your tribute to your daughter is absolutely beautiful. You are obviously an awesome mom because of your willingness to let your daughter bloom into her own person. I feel that is the greatest gift we can give our children: the opportunity to come into their own self-actualizations. Voted Up and Beautiful.

I just simply love that last line Jennifer - "as she flies" ...... well I was flying with both you and your lovely daughter and I just want to say that my mum was my best friend and she let me fly too - Happy Mother's day to a terrific writer/poet indeed and to a great mum as well.

Listening to the Doors live very loudly, lol, and my mum has paid a visit to me over 6 times now moving things around in this cottage where I live since she passed away in 2004.

Sending you warm wishes from Colin and his cats at lake erie time 11:01pm

I love this, it just says so much, a lovely tribute to your daughter and yourself.

I love the sense of freedom, the fact that although part of you she is very much herself. I'm always amazed by my daughters - I often watch their reactions - they are totally unalike - they are individuals in their own right.
