A search for meaning

Struggle and temptation

Mother, yet again my mental jungles’,

Pretty serious ailments have begun.

Do free me from such uncomely bundles –

Those sharp-tooted talons, like the falcons.’

Life’s become a rampage of temptations;

Its great intelligence is now misused.

I beg at your forgiveness-ocean,

So many have I humbled and abused.

I have squandered my intrinsic birthright,

Languished in insecurity and fear.

Where then to find the radiance of Thy Light,

When I see only darkness everywhere?

Transform the Love that’s tainted by much woe;

Give me the gaze that blends in every Core.

"The determination in your heroic efforts, will permeate your Heart's and mind, long after your success or failure is long forgotten." - Sri Chinmoy

Desire and Aspiration

So Hub Pages would like me to improve my Hub. Since I do not know the problem, perhaps I'll change a picture or two and write something also for aspiring seekers.

Desire - from the standpoint of the Yogi - is very necessary for life. Indeed nothing is negated really, since all comes from God or the Ultimate Absolute Reality. The absence of desire is like a stagnant pool, like those you may see in a very poor country or where health and hygiene is very limited.

Desire takes us from the life of attachments, temptations, cravings... to a life of aspiration, but without desire, it is impossible to get there. 'Nuff said.

Aspiration is the burning intensity for Truth, for Light, for meaning and purpose to it all. Desire is of this world and outward- looking, Aspiration is inward and upward-looking. Desire is of the world and in the world; Aspiration is for the elevation and illumination of the Soul.

Still, one does not jump from A to Z in the spiritual life. All is co-ordinated by the Divine according to one's Karma or package, if you like. One can move faster, of course, but for this, Grace is necessary, but I did not wish to get too heavy, just enough to satisfy Hub pages. Ha ha.

Where ever you are on the ladder of evolution is good. If you feel unhappy with it, then this may be the necessary inner urge to make progress ... the longing, need, yearning, earnestness ... call it what you must. Just don't beat yourself. Create the feeling of acceptance, as Grace is always present and knows our needs.

O.K. All that's left to do now is to change a picture or two and see what happens. This should be good karma, right? Wish me well. Om Shanti!

Are they a big problems for us?

      Yes, yes, my Sweet Rose.

I believe I have one on Adversity somewhere or I have spoken about it. We cannot grow without suffering. Again, what is suffering? It is an experience that God is having in and through us. We are all indeed Temples of God, of the One Absolute Supreme. Hope you are well. Loving thoughts and best for tomorrow, God's willing.

We will be tested until we're no longer on this earth. Some temptations are good - they can lead to achieving dreams or trying new things. We need to know when to shun temptation that leads us down a dark path. It's all part of life's lessons.

Life is a struggle most days but with faith and someone to love standing by I think we can get through it all alright.

      Thank you so much!!

That prayer for repentance and transformation is close to home. I especially love that paragraph beginning "Where ever you are . . ." My thought for the rest of the week!

Life's struggle with temptations is real. Your sonnet is beautiful, and one that all can relate to in some fashion. The photos are lovely!

Yes, you are dealing with whatever, in the best way you can. Sometimes that is all we can do. Like a retreat in itself, for that matter. We watch; we introspect ...

Is the question 'where do I choose to focus?' I am a disciple of Sri Chinmoy. In the devotional way, the picture of the Master is used a lot! We have a picture of Sri Chinmoy called a Transcendental, a trance-like picture that we use. We focus on the Heart but the picture (concentration/focus) helps us to Centre in the Heart.

I have two detailed Hubs here on Yoga Philosophy. If you need instructions, then let me know. You can use the Christ, a painting or a candle, as well as music or a dot to aid focus. There are many ways.

Bear in mind, though, that practice is essential, and for that one needs longing; yearning; earnestness .... the inner cry. I have sat in silent meditation every day for 34 years! If you need any instructions, read the two articles or let me know. Thanks ThreeKeys.

We were given this life to be human. I live simply. If I lived big I may then be aware of many more temptations. With that being said I can never say "never". I don't know how I would go...I like the saying of the Dalai Lama's. It goes soemthing along the lines of...where you can, enable others, where you can't, just do the least harm as is possible. How do you feel after your 9 day retreat manitita? Where do you know choose to focus?

Sweet temptation perhaps? If they don't hurt each other, but then it drives you mad, right? Ha ha. Thank you so much, my Friend.

Good one. We all have vices. Some temptations are easier to pass by than others. If only I.could get my children to fight the urge to beat each other up when they get mad. . .sibling rivalry is one of the ultimate temptations. LOL

Bill, twice you've made me laugh. All's good of course. Just finished my 9 day spiritual retreat. Happy you're on the plus side, Bro. We both are left with some 'smarties' in the bank. Ha ha. "Come Lord!" said St. Augustine. "But not yet, not yet."

Jodah, yes Bro, a tough one. I empathise. I believe it was you who said that you had learnt not to judge. Such a beautiful and illumining thing to say! Lots of Love, Bro.

Yes, Manatita we are destined to be presented with temptations to test us, and it takes a strong will to resist at times. A nice sonnet.

The battle against temptations...the battle of being human. My goodness, I can only speak for myself, but I do have my weaknesses. So far I'm on the plus side of the ledger but still.....

      Love your work, brother!
