Poem : God on my side!

Updated on February 15, 2012

God on my side!

God was such a

great presence.

during those days

when I was still

quite a little boy

growing up.

Imagine a scared

Young fellow

Going out to fetch

water at around

eight o’clock at night

I was the youngest

My older siblings

Were not at home

The water pipe was

a little distance

away from my house.

eight oclock was

pure horror for me.

I knew Jesus loved

the little children.

All the children

of the World!

That knowledge

was a huge part

of my overall sanity.

My father knew

exactly what he

was doing all along

It was his role

to make me a man.

he shouted hurry!

lets go hurry hurry!

But with the door ajar

it was dead black

outside and I knew

there plenty going on

I was seeing eyes

beast which lit up

like bulbs at night .

They were all around

The great plan was set

Everyone was involved

But i would not know

anything about this

for some time

I was probably around

Four years old

here I am praying

to God for my soul.

no crying would help

It was my time to start

Learning the ropes

Once I was able

to play then was able

to grow up playing

my part in the family.

Dad needs me to be

Brave it was his job

He wanted to break

My ice there was

No good by it being

Saved so all this time

there were many trees

all looking at me

As if they knew it was

my time to learn

They were making

these erie sounds

while waving at me

pretending to be

swaying in the breeze

It felt strange because

I played there every day

making my rounds

and there was nothing

that close as they are now ,

nothing hanging around

and to make it worse

they are having quite

a few things to say

As my dad looked at me

I knew what he meant

I went straight out

down the stairs without

thinking that anything

would happen this close

My daddy was present

He quickly slammed

the door and went inside

just at that moment

I was frozen, my entire world

crashed, went upside down !

I ran again up the stairs

knocked on the door

as my dad said , son

what's the #@ happening

I knew I would receive

quite a flogging

after which I would still

have to do it all over again

Now here I was

In a very bad way

he opened the door

the he said if you are

not gone before I

count to three

you will then bring me

Another bucket , now two.

My prayers started

They never stopped

Till I got into my home.

God on my side!

I can imagine how you must have felt going out in the dark as i myself was such a scaredy cat and afraid of both the day and the night. I hated night times, but God give me special grace to overcome by praying and reading Psalms 23,27, and 91 they did wonders and still do. I still have fear but not like i use to thank GOD for his love towards me and for deliverance.

      Thanks for sharing

Thank you the lyricwriter, this is of the most importance. The true meaning of of understanding is understanding.

Just like the Experience is the Experience you Experience you Experience when you Experience the Experience.

God is great and I too am glad you are here.

Have a blessed w/end. see you soon.

Sky, you are so talented at poetry my friend. You can clearly see the goodness of your heart by reading your poetry and understanding the messages in them. Glad I spotted you on the Hubs. Hope you have a great weekend.

Thanks you Cape. Can you imagine what was going through both our mind. I would love my parents regardless , because I understand the meaning of Love.

When you are loved for who you are , that's the ones you can trust . No one should say they were fooled by Love, maybe by their misunderstanding of what love means.

      Walk good brethren.

Your love for the greatest book ever written, will see you through.

Thanks Bluebird. You would easily tell what it is not was it lives with me , not as any kind of bad memory but compared to what is now being considered the norm , leaves that type of life to be magical.

To make sure we are on the very same page , I know the word bad means good believe it or not , we said it as youngsters: Boy he got a Bat Ride!

But growing up in the islands is the best thing that could have happened to me. Because my dad was extremely proud of his only son , that love sometimes could present some very challenging situations , but it was the very best way they knew how.

Food was always easy , because it came from the land, meat was either grown or fished. Water was there but bases on the system they had , the reservoir will sometime have it's bad days, but these parents were quite resourceful and for those reasons everyone have to pull their fair share.

My dad would have it no other way , it made you a man when you had your own growing up stories.

But all in all it was great . I had shared another : Mother Hen , the story of a boy and his pet foul.

Thank s for reading and commenting , our way can be the only be one and that's truthfulness.

Thank you for sharing this - it was touching in that I knew it to be written from experience and not something made up. You must'a had it pretty bad, but it strengthened your faith and character and that's what counts!

Thanks for reading and commenting MsDora . Oh yes the memories of your childhood ,with your parents , with the darkness and with Sunday school , if those did not stay with you, but rather you go on to create that which ,will only take you back to your youth , them you have learned nothing.

I ask before of that dear lady of yours, your mom I believe, but I do hope all is well, here's to a blessed life for her , she stays on my mind, the one in the picture with you.

      Thanks and give thanks .

So glad that the memory is no longer scary; you gained a great lesson for all times, that God is always present.

Thanks for reading and the ever so encouraging comment Rose.

Yes that's where it all started for me , in Sunday school , looking at all those fascinating pictures, and listening the stories of God, Jesus and the Bible.

They stayed with you to this day.

I realized that there are those who deliberately do not want to remember for their own selfish reasons, I had many friends now who don't want to hear anything about God they got so deeply rooted in things that they knew was evil in nature.

      Evil is powerful.

Childhood fears remember them well. I was taught to say my prayers early so I was also a child who knew God was on my side despite what was scaring me. I always loved looking at Bible pictures of Jesus holding a child on His lap. God bless.

Thanks brethren Frank ,. Writers bloch is only a mixture of feelings that not supposed to be all together in the first place , we place them there . Too much beauty withing ourselves and the world around us. I have not even started that's the reason my reminders are many.

Well the love between parents and child is already there , it's with out a doubt, my father knew it and he did not just send me out for the water , he prepared me for it , these are some of the areas I played , he was looking at me , my entire family was home , it was their plan , it's a right of passage , all play and Goo Goo ga ga and no training , He broke the ice. He watched me all the time.

The love is there it's a matter of the best way to show it . The only people you can go to in those days to get satisfaction , were children parents . We preferred the police than our parents .

There is no question who the child is and who is the parent, and that's the way it should always be .

      No writers block for me.

      Bless. brethren.

This is funny and refreshing. I saw you as a child and Daddy prompting you on. We learn so much as children and it carries over and lasts a life time..Thank you for sharing...
