How it works, and why:

Back on Earth you had three kinds of folks you called "gardeners". The kind in it for the money. The kind in it for the food. The kind in it for the joy of doing something in partnership with God.

Here in Heaven we don't do gardening for the money. We don't need to do it for the food. The purpose then becomes to all do it for the joy of doing something in partnership with God.

The first question many new arrivals ask is, "Do we all take this gardening course?"

The answer is "Yes."

Some take to the instruction like roots take to fertilizer. Others grow in enjoyment on their own time path.

For those who struggle, we remind them that patience and long suffering are heavenly virtues, while overcoming the tendency to swear over disappointments is a part of the course.

As the new arrivals progress and graduate, the grand purpose of the gardening course is revealed to them. They are to help create other Earths.

The "Earth experience" they have just come from gave them knowledge and experiences to build upon. Once they are here, their perfect recall allows them to build upon their knowledge and experiences.

Of course, if you come here, you will have almost endless questions. Fortunately you will have an endless time to discuss and find answers.

Just as there will be many others to help provide answers, there will be many others dedicated to creating other Earths in the galaxies. You will meet chemists, botanists, physicists, and astronomers, together with scientists of all the other sciences, each dedicated to perfecting their knowledge and sharing in the joy of a partnership with God.

Not all will be gardeners, but all will share in the heavenly challenges of eternal life.

NOTE:

Eleven other subjects covered in this "Heaven Knows" series are: Time, Exercise, Fast Food & Less, Heavenly Hair Styles, Languages, Partners & Sleep Schedules, Retraining & Adjustments, Ageless Age, Warriors In Heaven, Music, and Heaven's Library.

MizBejabbers - As with the other short stories in this series, this one is intended to get us thinking about "What's next?"

There is more truth than fiction in this story than most people realize. While souls may not be actually getting their hands dirty, they are helping to create in this world and others just like this one. Great writing, Demas.
