HOW WILL I KNOW...by b. Malin

Updated on January 11, 2011
Me, Self Portrait...after a three hour walk on the beach.
Me, Self Portrait...after a three hour walk on the beach.

JUST ME AND MY MAC...AND THOUGHTS

How will i know when I'm old?

When I can no longer walk for miles on the beach...

When the sparkle for life leaves my eyes.

And Sunsets don't matter anymore...

And Life seems more like a chore...or a bore.

And I stop wishing when I see a shooting Star.

Or believing that most people are good...

And that my husband and I will be together, until the very end.

How will I know when I'm old?

When men no longer give me that look...

It shouldn't matter, but it does.

How will I know when I'm old?

I guess when someone refers to me that way.

It shouldn't matter, but it does.

And my children no longer think I'm hot.

And my grandchildren ignore me...

And my husband stops making love to me...

I could become that eccentric lady and grow my hair long.

While sitting in the window, playing my favorite song...

And writing my Prose and Poetry all day long.

How will I know when I'm old?

I hope that I'll be too busy to notice.

Or that it really won't matter anymore.

Rich, loved the quote by Benjamin Franklin, and never more truer then today...Thanks for taking the time to leave such wonderful comments, straight from your mind, and heart.

We are old as we feel but I know what you mean my friend; and getting old is all relative!

I think about ageing gracefully, and with dignity and not thinking about knowing when I will be old! If I do then I will grow older quickly just thinking about it! So instead I just keep my mind and body busy and it seems to do the trick!

      One last thought:

'We do not stop playing because we grow old, we grow old because we stop playing!' Benjamin Franklin

      Keep playing in mind and body;

      keep writing prose and poetry

and it will help you keep at bay

      that darn increasing seniority!

      God bless you my friend!

This is really great! I love how you can just feel the moment and let it flow. Nice to see the poetry as well as the prose. And yes, we still think you are quite 'hot' ! :-D

It was kind of fun to do Cheryl...I'd taken the picture, and then the words just seemed to fall into place... You certainly know me, as we do go way back to those days. Thanks for loving it!

Pixienot, I'd like to think that we are friends...Hub friends...we care about one another. I guess the mind is always going and thinking...and getting older is inevitable, and I know it. I wouldn't want to be any younger then I am...I just want to be happy and healthy and expressing my thoughts.

B I'm sure in real time we would be very good friends.

I don't mind getting older, I mind "feeling" older. And that is only when I am not feeling well (aside from the FM)

In my head I am young (ish).

      Beautiful poem

Well it's nice to know that I could make you laugh and smile...I understand what you are saying about having hard days...write about them...get it out of your system...You my friend are a writer, with a deep soul...use your "gift" to get you out of the funk...it helps. LOL.

B,just stopped by again to say...you were the first face I saw this morning. And I've been having some hard days. Read your writing and looked at your face and smiled - even laughed a little - then made myself some chocolate milk and some oatmeal raisin cookies for breakfast. I felt better for a while :) Thanks again :)

You will never know because you will always feel like you did when you were younger. Age is a state of mind.

      Voted up and beautiful.

Erin, I feel humbled and blessed for what you have said to me...As writers we know how to express...But when it's total understood by another writer, that's really what it's all about. Thank you.
