Such a Travesty, the slaughtering of the wild Mustangs in Oklahoma!

The Mustang, once proud,

As it ran over the plains.

Free spirit, roamed wide,

Happiness, one of its gains.

Now facing death's call,

Done by the hand and a vote.

A fine car was named,

After its spirit, fine coat.

This stallion, wronged,

By callousness, no regard.

A death sentence, framed,

By heartless ones, their discard.

Who will be the next,

to feel the axe's sharp blade?

Perhaps some of us,

Soon to follow, our parade.

Nobody feels any worse about it than I do. That's what happens when wealthy men end up in power here.

I agree, and there's not very much we can do but just watch and be appalled sometimes. whonu

Whonu, this is a travesty! Mustangs are so majestice, graceful and the epitome of beauty and freedom. What purpose is supposed to be met by slaughtering the Mustang?

This is te question we are asking in unison to those who have decided to slaughter the wonderful creatures! We must all stand up and say we will not accept this any more.

All I know to do is write all that I can and tell others, hoping someone may have an answer. In our state of Oklahoma, the bill was just signed to okay the slaughter. I understand the meat may be sold to other countries. I have learned that horse meat has been sold for some time and is often tainted with chemicals, used as sub beef in dishes in packaged store brands, and such things as dog foods. It is horrible and I feel it should be stopped.

Who, I think that we need to raise awareness of the need to shop heinous behavior and your poem does that. Wonderful share!

This is a wonderful haiku, if we keep doing what we are doing to the majestic aminals we will drive them to extinction. Look at the Abaco barb the destruction of there habitat has just about pushed them to extinction .
