Haunted by Memories of Your Face (Poetry)

Updated on March 27, 2013

I wish I could sleep like the dreamless
So in my dreams I wouldn't see your face
That perfect picture of heaven
That reminds me how I fell from grace

I wish there was hope, but I'm hopless
Hoplessly in love with you
But hope has no place in a guy like me
Cause my dreams are never coming true

I've been scorned by the righteous
Left for dead in a no-man's land
Convicted of crimes against your heart
Now all I want to do is hold your hand.

I'm begging you, reach out to me
Make some room for me in that broken place
So at night when I close my eyes
My dreams aren't haunted
By memories of your face.

Beautiful poem. Memories warm us up from the inside. But they also tear us apart.
