Headlines that don't match the photo..or do they?

Updated on January 5, 2012

The news can often be very depressing. But sometimes what is most tragic about the headline is the accompanying photo. Whether it is the result of an editing oversight or perhaps a subtle attempt by the newspaper writers to "fun" things up this kind of situation can lighten up even the most controversial of news. Here are a few headline mishaps to share that feature a few notable persons.

    Very good clips Bethperry!

I think you should have included a poll to choose the best - mind you, I'd have been hard pushed to choose between an exploding Elton John, the vile odour and the escaped mental patient. Mind you Hilary Clinton and that elderly lady who runs the prostitution ring would have to be considered too.

    Voted up.

No wait a minute - it has to be 'Inbred idiocy on the rise.' The picture says it all. :-)

Hey, Beth, thanks for the confidence. I know this is off subject, but I think I just proved my theory. Yesterday morning I was browsing some sites looking for a particular brand of boots. I had never searched for that brand before. Today when I opened Hub Pages, there was the ad for that brand along with another website that sells shoes!

Wow. ROFL!!! Thanks for the chuckles! Pretty funny what people can miss when they're so focused on their tasks that they don't step back and look at the whole picture... (^_^)

They may be personalizing the ads to the reader. They follow us and do that. I'm using my husband's PC today and it isn't here. Something more appropriate to his interest is there. Anyway, thanks for the follow. I'll say it again: Just loved the hub!

Thanks much, all, and glad you enjoyed them. Mizbejabbers - I think they must change these ads every little bit because it isn't showing up right now. But next time I'm in I hope it'll be back up!

OMG! I love it! This is one of the very "bewares" that we are taught in journalism school. When I was working on my MA in journalism, I attended a conference and presented a paper. I didn't win because the winning paper was on this very subject. Everyone thought it was a very clever paper. Your hub is also very clever. I voted you up, interesting, funny and awesome!

By the way, just below this column is an ad that is an example of your hub but I don't think it is meant to be. How perfect!
