Hearts and Rainbows

This was originally written in 2000. I've since published a poetry book with the same title. I hope you enjoy.

Hearts and Rainbows…

Love and Dreams.

May your Life

Always be

As It seems…

…when you’re Young.

For Life is Beautiful

And full of Wonder

When you see It

For the First Time.

(you’ll look back later, but it’ll

just feel like a dream)

(Remember when you were young?)

Hearts and Rainbows

Love and Dreams.

Always remember them…

‘Cuz when you grow older

And you learn

To deal

With

“all the Other Things”,

You’ll need to go back

To

Love and Dreams.

Phyllis, I'm so pleased that Patricia has shared this with you. I actually published a poetry book in 2013 and took inspiration for the title from this particular poem. It's called Hearts and Rainbows - A Poetic Look at Life.

I'm thrilled that this poem has touched you.

Shauna, I am so glad Patricia shared this poem of yours so I could see and read it. It is lovely and so meaningful to me. It is a reminder that when times are tough, it is good to remember days of hearts and rainbows and those good feelings about life. Thank you for writing this beautiful poem.

Patricia, thank you for visiting this poem. It's important to hold on to some of the innocence and yearning we have as children. That's what keeps us going. What keeps us striving. It moves us forward to adventure and new horizons.

      Thank you for sharing.

Mary, Zorba was awesome. I have such good memories of him. He died shortly after I left home. My mom says he died of a broken heart. That's not really the case, but it was her way of letting me know he mourned when I left.

Audrey, the picture of Zorba (boy dog) is with my sister (left) and her best friend at the time. And, yes, Zorba was a Great Dane.

Your mother is absolutely gorgeous. And what a darling baby you were. I couldn't take my eyes off of the picture of you (the black and white) and just wanted to reach out and hug you.

When I first glanced at the photo of you and your sister, I thought Zorba was a horse. She was a great dane.

True words indeed, childhood was so full of wonder and dreams and as an adult we do spend hours on 'all the other things.'

Bill, I guess that's the perils of having a gagillion followers - you get inundated. Or maybe they just want you to eat your veggies? haha. Seriously, thanx for the comment my good friend. My mom still is a beauty at 74!

Fairy Godson, the beauty of poetry is each person reading interprets it a little differently. I believe in dreams and will never stop dreaming!

Gypsy, thanx for taking the time to visit my corner. It's a pleasure!

H.C., beautiful sentiment. Thank you so much!

Annie, I'm glad I was able to bring some happy thoughts and memories to you. Great Danes are awesome dogs, aren't they?

Spy, yes, life was simpler then. We, as children, most of us anyway, were carefree. I played alone most of the time. Just me and my imagination. I preferred it that way, actually. I was a dreamer even as a little girl. I'm glad you've started coming out of your shell and are no longer hiding. You have so much to share!

Lot, having play interrupted by reality was a bummer, indeed! I'm glad you 've enjoyed my poem.

Snowdrops, I'm glad I was able to touch you with pleasant memories!

Hubert, you're too funny! We couldn't ride Zorba, as their backs aren't strong enough, but he was my pillow. We'd lay on the floor and watch TV. I'd lay my head on his chest and he'd throw his monsterous arm over me. Ahh, those were the days!

Thanks to all of you for the warm reaction to this heartfelt poem!

a nice poem brave warrior, I always remember my childhood days playing with my sisters and friends, Mom always get mad to us because we don't listen when she call us because all we wanted is just play and play. those are happy days and missing the old days too.

Oh this is so beautiful bravewarrior. I always remember the younger version of me. Life was much simpler way back then.

I also do remember how I feel weird, maybe that's why I really did not really enjoy all the childhood time I had but still had a very good memories of those frozen times :)

I'm always in hiding.. just reading and writing most of the time just to escape reality.. I spend the time doing all the chores inside the house, taking care of things Im not supposed to do.

It's really weird because i feel guilty when I just play the whole day when I know my mom is working hard to get us money and me just passing a lazy day.

"Hearts and rainbows", what a special time it was with fun and games and Mum and Dad taking care of "all the other things"!! Lovely poetry and adorable family photos. Beautiful! Hearts and Rainbows, Love and Dreams.... when seen through a child's eyes is uplifting. We certainly allow ourselves to become tainted with age... but when he can realize the simplest things that we knew as children, we become better adults and much more capable of making those Hearts and Rainbows, Love and Dreams a reality. I loved the hub! Voted Up and Beautiful!

I'm so damn glad you didn't do a recipe; I'll love you forever for that very fact. LOL....When will this month be over so the recipes will disappear from this site?

Back to the poem....beautifully written, so full of promise and happy times. Your mom was a beauty, as is her daughter.

      Well done my Florida friend!

I live in New Jersey now, but I used to live in Frankford by the El tracks.

Thank you my friend. I've actually posted two poems and the next in my Green Tips series today. I don't have a lot of time of late, but I try to post as least on the weekends.

I'm so glad you took the time to stop by. (Still wish you lived next door!)

Such a beautiful poem. One of my favorites from you. They say "youth is wasted on the young", but not if we appreciated is from the beginning to end.

You have a wonderful creative mind and I just love this.

As long as we keep them in our hearts, we'll be true to ourselves and not lose site of what's important.

I spent my formative years in Philly. On the city side of City Line Avenue. I went to catholic school in Bala Cynwyd. Where in Philly are you?

It would be so nice to go back to those days.
