Heavenly Music: A Poem or Song

Updated on October 12, 2011

I don't just wanna hear

Something that tickles my ear

I don't just wanna be

Someone that believes in an alternate reality

(Chorus)

I want lyrics that please the Father

Words with depth and something farther

Than this world and its selfishness

Not for only me but something built on selflessness

Give me something of substance

Not something for mind abuse

Give me God's divine truth

Something real is what I wanna choose

"Music is a tool used to pry open our soul and pour in emotion. It also expresses deep feelings that we long to unleash, but don't have the proper words to describe it. It brings people together, provokes smiling and dancing, and is one of the few universal languages. Listen and learn to be human."~Ebower

Owl City's 'In Christ Alone' is a case in point, right?

Paul speaks of 'making melody in your heart to the Lord'.

I agree. I appreciate all kinds of Christian music. I've heard it say that there is no Christian music, just Christian lyrics.

I think it's important for Christians not to forget their rich heritage of music and verse with spiritual value.

      YW.

BTW, the bit about music is quite something, coming from you as a poet: you know, about 'expresses deep feelings that we long to unleash, but don't have the proper words to describe it'.

This is why I love collective hymn singing, really.

Great sentiment. And good quote...from EBower!

(You might want to check the spelling of 'then'; maybe you mean 'than'?)

      Blessings.
