Her Gift - a short poem

Updated on February 1, 2015
Source

He was secretly seen,

purchasing,

naughty but nice,

saucy and spice,

‘His and Hers’

Intimate apparel.

How thoughtful

how quaint,

how nostalgic,

wasn’t it great

he’d remembered the date.

An Anniversary gift to share,

But - beware…

The gift didn’t materialise,

only then did she realise,

only then did it occur,

they were bought for

Him and another Her.

Undeterred,

she booked a romantic cruise,

Just for Her and Him,

Blissfully aware of His

inability –

to swim.

Mary, much appreciate your comment. It's kind of tongue in cheek but yes, she's my sort of lady too. Thanks Mary.

travmaj, such a delectable poem was hidden from my eyes ! So fortunate am I to find out and taste it. Should I need a novel to read after feeling all the thrill in these wonderful verses. Really a wonderful poem. Voted up and shared. PS: Voted also as useful because such poetry is badly needed in present times.

I know the poem appears to be funny, but it can also be read as a tragedy of betrayal, with a brave soul telling the world that 'When I go I'll go like Elsie.'
