Her Serene Smile
She didn’t recognize the old woman starring at her
She thought she might of been someone she
Knew from her past
Everywhere she went the old lady was there
A serene smiled pasted on her old and wrinkled face
She often saw this old woman standing behind her when she
Looked in a mirror or a window on the street
When she’d turn around she found herself alone
Shrug her shoulders and move on
She didn’t stop to question this lady and she
Had no intention of seeking her out
It wasn’t her business if the old woman
Came and went but found it odd she
Never spoke a word, only wore that serene smile
Often times she would sit and watch
The evening news, in between commercials
Her mind would wonder off in a thousand directions
Of reflections
On one particular evening as her mind was traveling
On its own adventure, the picture of an old
Woman appeared on the TV screen
She sat up to get a better look
There it was that same serene smile
She’d recognize it any where
Faded eyes and wrinkled skin hair
Color of pure white silk
And the caption read the old lady
Was found dead two months ago and her name
Was ………….
