Valley Of The Shadow Of Death
Martyr.
You who so vehemently declare "Send the troops"
More than likely have never been to war or had to worry endlessly
about a Child or loved one, fighting on distant shores,
you never had to look into the soulless
eyes of the broken People that come back.
There are Children, now living in squalor,
upper, lower limbs, all missing except for a stub
Their lives forever changed.
Isolation now becomes their norm.
when they come back broken masses.
.
You who have never had to hold a Child, wracked with Night sweats,
and confusion, scared to sleep, scared to wake.
who sinks deeper into depression,
Alcohol and drugs become their only weapon.
Have you ever cried at Nights for a Soldier who lost his/her life;
One you watched from Childhood that grew into Maturity?
To see their bodies blown to pieces?
And all that's left are the boots and fragments.
Do you ever stop to think, that these Soldiers
Have no say, in what they fight for each and every day?
Our Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine is deplete,
tired and overworked.
Do you know the cost of war to Families left behind,
Do you even know how they survive?
have you ever wondered while you lay in your cushy bed,
Thoughts of sugar plums dancing in your head,
the conditions these Soldiers have to abide?
I wonder if it were Mandatory that
your Child was forced to serve a Year or two
for such a cause, would you then intone?
"Send our troops" into martyrdom!
