"Hold On"

Updated on August 23, 2017

Into the depths of madness I crawl

lost and unaccounted for

I've drunk from the Devil's cup

I've opened Death's door.

Deep within my solitude

I take my last breath

as I cross the threshold of darkness

and leave behind the rest.

No more sorrows.
...No more pain.
......No more hurt.
.........No more shame.

.........No more laughter.
......No more love.
...No more kisses.
No more hugs.

There's nothing after this

only empty space void of time

once you make the choice

once you cross the line.

From dust to dust,

from ash to grime,

clinging on to

our once pathetic lives.

Wow, Nikki what a beautiful poem. Your words have a power over me, and your imagination can be so dark and yet so awesome. I feel I am riding on the back of some beast through a nightmare and yet with you at the controls it all comes right and makes sense. "Lost and unaccounted for..." and words like "Drunk from the Devil's cup...".. that is so scary and visceral. It sounds like a place where there is no control...

I have to rate you up and excellent as always, Nicole. You are awesome. ^_^

A shadow of life clutching and bare

      A victim of loneliness

      A cup of just air

      A door of dark justice

      A sense of none there

      I scream "no more sorrow"

      Yet feel none to care

      An emptiness less time

      A cry of due choice

      A once only line

      A dust to just become

      An "ash" gone to "grime"

      That shadow of life

      A pathos as mine

      ...

Love that photo and Avatar Nikki - beautiful!!!

Darkly laden with just the right tinge of artistic and impressionistic bohemianism, reminiscent of the 1950's beatnik era! Excellently done in its succinct simplicity, Nicole! Voted up and awesome!

Fantastic hub, Nikki! I like the depths it plunges to and then has the hold on message there too. You are a great writer. I love this line "...only empty space void of time". And yes, we can see you here in this picture! Very atmospheric! :)

Asshes to ashes, dust to dust. Beautiful... I released the next installment of the NArcissus hub, but it was flagged by hubpages for adult/mature content. I've revised it twice, we'll see what happens.

thanx so much you guys! Kate nice to see a new face here. I am glad yall liked the format. I did that with reason in mind, the top part to show that these are good things to have no more of, but without them, without life, we dont have the good things that we want to keep either. and all too many times someone will make the mistake of leaving it all behind, only to regret it in the afterlife perhaps. they become dust, ash and grime(grimes definition is black dirt or soot, especially dirt CLINGING to ingrained in a surface) hence HOLDING ON to life still.

I loved this one. Awesome! I agree with Kate, too. I liked what you did at the middle. They're like spear to me. Each leaves a blow..

How amazing it is when life sucks and you feel like giving up but there's one big thing that keeps you holding on..

This is really beautiful - I really like what you did visually with the stanza in the middle. It feels like the whole poem is swaying, like it's on unsteady ground, which really adds to the feel of the poem.
