How my instincts kicked in and saved my life from what could have been a Tragic incident

Updated on December 12, 2012

I can laugh at the moment today but back then I was scared as hell.

Oh well let me tell you a true story of what happen to me just over five years ago back in 2007. I was living in the western side of my country the west is fully surrounded by mountains and we lived on a hill , a good walking distance from the main junction. However we had taxis working in case we did not feel like walking up or down the hill.

Ninety six percent of the time I use to walk down as it was good for exercise and also saving a few dollars and perhaps cents back then. I had Maths class that evening so I got ready, told my grandmother good bye and headed down the road. While walking I saw a taxi and for some lazy reason I stopped it and I went into the back seat. There was a lady in the front of the car and another to the back with a child no older than eighteen months.

The driver turned around and said to us that he have to go to Unity extension to drop off a passenger. Now I lived Unity Road which is a hill Unity Extension however is a much steeper and longer hill on the tippy top of a mountain scary view. When the car was going up the hill I was smelling something burning in the car. I said driver are you smelling something burning he said yes that's just the brakes binding and am in the back seat like are you kidding me. We are on the top of Mount Everest and you are telling me that your brakes has a problem. Ok then!!!

Anyways we reached to the top of the hill safely the driver came out ,there was a mechanic to the top of the hill, he explained the situation to the mechanic. Who insisted that the driver drop us and then come back. Now by this time I would of already reach the main road and be quarter way on my journey. So we all know when you get to the top of a hill there's a flat part so as the driver turned the car and was just about to go down hill. I heard him shout out oh God the brakes gone well death flashed across me in those mere seconds I already saw myself crashing through someone's house below and that will be the end of everyone in he car. I would never see my granny again or anyone it was my last day on earth.

I prayed Lord have mercy on me and save my soul if I should die. The driver was fighting to stop the car I mean we are already on the brink of heading down to our DEATHS. My goodness my instincts kicked right in and you know that moment when fear hits you, you'll do just about anything to save yourself. I flung open the car door while the car was still in motion and thrusted my body out into a canal where the driver was trying to lock the car tyre over the canal to stop the car. I said to myself is either life or death here I choose life. All this happened in just a few seconds quick quick........

The lady who was in the back seat with the baby got courage when she saw my matrix stunt and tried doing the same. Only on her side had no canal and she sprained her feet as the car was moving and the driver was fighting the steering like a man to get it over the drain so the tyre would be jammed which he did win the deadly aggressive fight, between tyre and man .He then turned and shouted at me what the hell you think you were doing by throwing yourself out of the car? Do you want to put me in trouble ? I was still in the canal cold sweating frighten like a chicken. Shivering looking at the minor bruises I had gotten and thinking to myself is this driver MENTALLY ill? I did the best I could have done to save me. Because you and that stupid mechanic with your insane idea of taking a chance to go down mount Everest with no flaming brakes. Now am being looked as the crazy one huh?. You should be in a mental institute.........

The lady called her husband who picked her up and they give me a drop somehow I started laughing hysterically at the incident. It was one moment of sadness then uncontrollable laughter I lived through it and what was comical , was the flash back with me throwing myself out of the car I did it in such away like if I saw a pool and I plunged in. Yet knowing it was hard concrete. Up to today I remembered it and I still cannot get over what FRIGHT made me do and I couldn't help but laugh.

Thank God the driver got his car to stop and no one died. Only after his brother told me he is and old drunkard and I should not travel with him again. Oh boy I never did and whenever I saw his car I felt like , running like hell without ever looking back.

The END
