do i now become spectator

to my own decline

to my own demise

as bit by bit

parts wear out

and like an overburdened motor

i am idling too high

waiting for the drop--

waiting for

the engine to warm enough

enough for today--

tomorrow

another chance

another part

another lesson in humility

Voted up and across . . . love your insight on aging and humility . . . and I had to laugh on "idling to high - waiting for the drop". Perfect words to describe the adult ADD I experience some mornings.

We become the spectator of our own decline/ demise in many ways. Our failures, our frustrations, rejections everything nibble us bit by bit.

      Wonderful piece of writing.

Sad yet honest and beautiful in the same breath. I can empathize with your feelings when you wrote this. Even though these bodies might fade away and die, we always have our souls.

Audrey as I was reading your poem I was listening to a song that in my opinion fit perfectly with your lovely poem.

The song is "Heaven" by Unkle. :)

      Hi Audrey,

There is certainly not a decline when it comes to the quality of your poetry.

      Voted up and away!

Doesnt have to be that way. you are only as old as you feel. excercise and eat right, and do things, travel, live life. Take care of yourself and you will last, same thing with a car. if you take care of it it will last. :)

I should have written this myself, but then, I would have stolen from myself, the greater pleasure of a read, which had I written, would have asked, "wheres Audrey!"

It is a lesson in humility and it seems to be one that we need to be older before we can learn it. Loved your poem.

Voted up and awesome. In a way it made me also chuckle Audrey because we are like engines wearing out as we go. Some days I feel like I have to tighten a few screws. Well put and creatively clever.

Beautidul poem, very well expressed. Voted up. Old age does take ove bit by bit, with old age comes wisdom, with old age comes grand children, with old age you have a treaure of wonderful memories to think of and you have all the time to sit and think.

As I've heard it said here in the south, "Getting old ain't for sissies." Although, is seems to me that you and the rest of us are gracefully growing older, which is so beautiful. Voted up and interesting. In His Love, Faith Reaper
