I AM WOMAN...by b. Malin
OVER THE RAINBOW...
"I am Woman hear me Roar"...sang Helen Reddy so many years ago. Recently I heard that song sung once again on Colin Stewart's site, "Let's Talk Music and Cinema". And who doesn't know our Famous "Epigramman" on Hub Pages...If not Check him out, you're in for a real Treat. Ok, so as Helen sang, "I'm just an Embryo, with a long, long way to go"...It got me to thinking. I was once just an Embryo...Now really who thinks of themselves that way? Me. Just Humor me for awhile...and I'll share my Hub thoughts with you.
Now really you say... and I say, YES, REALLY...I know, none of us can picture their Parents in Love, or making Passionate LOVE together. Ew...But they did! And I'll go you one better, our KIDS our "Light of our LIves" feel the same way about us! I know my own father thought I'd had an "Immaculate Conception" when I told the family I was going to have a baby.
So there I was a few years later, as well as having had another "Immaculate Conception"...Hey watch it, that's my late father you're snickering about. ANYWAY, there I am with a Toddler by my side, and a baby on my knee, in my Bell Bottom Jeans, A "Hippie", a Flower Child..Singing at the top of my Lungs..."I am Woman, I am Invincible...I am strong". And I would tell my Sons, as they grew up... "You can do Anything"...and thank goodness they believed my words, and Helen's (I must give credit where credit is due) and grew up they did, into Wonderful, Strong, but Sensitive, young Men.
I did a little research and found out that Helen Reddy needed another song for her first album and co-wrote "I Am Woman" with Guitarist, Ray Burton, another Strong, Sensitive, Male. Bet you didn't know that! Well, I'm willing to admit that I didn't.
"If I have to, I can Face Anything"... Helen sang...and most woman have in their lifetime...Be it in Love, Birth, or the Death of someone close......and if we live long enough... we become, "Not a Novice any Longer". "I am Strong, I am Invincible". "Yes, I've come along way as a Woman, but I've still got a Long, Long, way to go, until I make my Brother Understand"...That's you guys...But deep down I think most of you do. In the End, we Mold one another.
Now when I hear the Song, "Somewhere Over the Rainbow"...it always makes me cry...Especially the line, "If Happy Little Blue Birds Fly over the Rainbow, Why than a Why can't I". Someday I will leave this world, and I think I'd like these two songs Sung. Maybe by those who are still standing...after all I'll probably be at least 110...scratch that...make it 120! So Sing Everybody Sing!
