I Am An Eagle
I Am An Eagle
I am an Eagle. Look up. See me soaring the currents
Effortlessly over peaceful valleys and plains
I look down from a high perch observing
Crowded highways and frayed nerves
A homeless woman sitting on a park bench
Beside her, a shopping cart holding all her earthly possessions
Her stare not broken by the sound of sirens and chase on the street.
My place was once among this refuse. I bear scars amassed this road
Then one day the crushing weight broke me, I cried aloud to die
Desperate, I leaped. Fastening only to faith yet undeveloped
Trusting (scared by trusting) I would climb
I now can watch the sky fill with blackness build into a storm
I sit still. Turning my head one way and then the other
until the full gust of wind blows against my breast
Then I swing into the storm before me, not afraid of the pitch and toss
My spiritual wings carry me upward, lifting me to higher realms
I can fly!
