It’s my role, my life’s lot

I’m not disgruntled

I wish not to be a martyr

But rather

A smoother of feathers

Calmer of waters

Catcher of fallers

I will adjust my schedule to see you smile

Stow my joy for another day

Invite yours out to play

Retell the story to make you look better

Listen to you for hours vent

Bump your hip with mine to make you grin

I’ll shine my light and love on you

Watch your fears melt away

Hold your hand and heart

Sit with you and pray

I’ll kiss the owies with magical lips

Rock you till the tears are gone

Lend you my courage

Advise you if I can

Then smile big until it soaks into your face

But who will hold me when I am down

Wipe the hair from my eyes and lift my chin

Tell me tales, find my grin

Perhaps my champion is me

By healing them, I heal myself

I’ve found catharsis in my pen

Someone’s calling, I’ve gotta run

They’re feeling low, they need a friend

Yes. You're speaking for so many people here. So very many. I had to sigh real big after this one. Yes.

Randy beautiful awesome work and the structure...the thoughts are amazing and the wording is scrumptious. It is not just that I love your work, I admire it.

Hi there, Randy -- You know I hardly even comment on poetry, but this one... I understand perfectly what you're talking about, and all the sighs from the ladies here :-) I just ... how to say this?

"I will adjust my schedule to see you smile" is so unhealthy that I just don't want to even be close to identifying. You know what I mean?

At any rate, greatly done Ms Hips, because you've had me here trying to put down a comment that made semi sort of sense for the past 10 minutes! Besos!

Paris thank you for you sweet comment. I am humbled by it. Really.

Hi Elena, There are a lot of "unhealthy" phrases in this I suppose. I was once told by a some what psychic girl, that my task in this incarnation was to be a helper and facilitator. Basically just here to steer others in the right direction. Some times I think she was right. Maybe my life isn't about me at all.

The realities we find oursleves in are often the positions we choose. As much as it hurts to realize/recognize, we are (sometimes) what we do... in other's eyes.

May we all learn from other's situations. But, also, be ok to choose this role when WE WISH... not when OTHER's DEMAND!

I find these words to be true for a former me. And for that I congratulate you in sharing this. I wish for you the freedom to be whatever role you choose to be when you choose to be it!

Food for thought Enigmatic Me. I need to learn to balance what is good for me and what is good for others. I'm learning.

To heal others is indeed a polish of the mirror... *sigh* but one can run short of energy as we devote ourselves to others. "Perhaps my champion is me" says the truth of it, for we can help no one at all without a solid foundation.

Empathic expression, thanks for the meditative light.

Earthscribe thank you for sharing your thoughts. We all need to take time to refill our own gas tanks, for sure.

This made me cry, Randy, didn't see it coming. Nurturing can be very draining. I love this line: "Then smile big until it soaks into your face"

      Such a good poem.............

And such good advice from Enigmatic Me. I can relate.
