I am Just a Dream
Like the eye of the queen staring at me
From her lighted square on the chess board
I see your gazing face crisscrossed in shadow
Peering at me from behind the trellis
Your fingers like the green ivy
Interlace and weave their way along the wrought iron framing
And beckon a come hither
But you cannot have me
I am just your fantasy
I see your finger interlace and weave along the pencils length
As you yearn to bring forth your desire
Your fingertip lightly touches the pointed lead
Amazing me that the dull gray can produce
Such beautiful script as roses red
Whose petals blend and caress your lips
As you plead for me to come nearer
But you cannot have me
I am just a dream
Tears trail a path to settle as dew
On broad leaves of emerald the color of your eyes
Which you close now as you lay yourself down
In a bed of baby’s breath and fern
And the tiny butterfly’s from your French painted nails
Flutter from your meadow in a monarch patterned web
To carry me on their wings to be laid by your side
But you cannot have me
I am just an illusion
So you take your pencil
The writers’ magic wand
And you push it into your heart
While the roots soak up your soul
And spread there in the sun
You allow your mind to let go
And create us with your own tale…
...A single shaft of sunlight makes its way through the canopy of trees
Illuminating a soft circle of light on a green meadow
Like a spotlight on a stage, awaiting the graceful ballerina to enter into its glorious halo.
A single Monarch drifts into the glow and pauses, enjoying the warmth
Until a wisp of wind catches her spectacular wings and carries her on her way.
Nature’s audience erupts into an applause of birds singing
And the wind whispering through the leaves
Causing the trees to stretch forth their limbs and gently sway.
Just outside the light we sit in shadows smiling as we look into each other’s eyes
Knowing that the love we share is true
Needing no audience, no attention, we need not prove
We embrace in a kiss as the light inches nearer.
That we are happy, that we are perfect together, time will tell.
Others begin to take notice possibly understanding the meaning of life;
Love
The light begins to envelope us
And nature makes it clearer
I want to wake you, to warn you
That you cannot have me
Because I am only a fantasy, a dream, an illusion
But now I know why
You entered my world with no eraser.
