IMF Again!
Twice 20 years five hurricanes ago
Missiles flew through the lines of death and votes
Cold war daggers drawn 'gainst imagined foe
Misery acquaints bedfellows cutthroats
Red tide of anger seeking oil and food
Stone-hearted bankers do as bankers would
Slogans multiplied, growth saw slow increase
Bold with need borrowed near and far and wide
While guns poured in to keep the turf of gain and loss
Borrowed some more, mortgaged the countryside
One large invented strip to wound they bound
International Monetary Fund
Tight and coarse, bled the poor to nearly dead
Juiced coffers of the middle class some more
Put the rich in ragged disarray and dread
Burden of debt became a stinking sore
Cold was the phrase from the next government
The IMF Structural adjustment
Two seasons of sorrow, laughter and tears
We learned to lose and lose and lose again
The upper crust began to win the day
Too much tightness sent the voters away
The social left had a symbolic plan
Borrow no more from the IMF man
Until dark times are upon us again
Nations great and small beaten black and blue
Continental shocks quaking greater men
Listen! The cavalry and its pin-striped crew
Hear the wounded and beaten cry “Who’s this?”
Hero IMF with painful remedies
