If I could protect you from everything that hurts

I would take too much, rob you of life

Yet it wounds my heart to see you cry a single tear

How can I give up

This pointless fight

For you will grow stronger

And you will grow wise

Treasure things that bring a laugh and smiles into your eyes

And I will grow prouder

And know you are mine

And yet much more than this

A sea of rhyme

If I could hold you near me like yesterday's embrace

I would say so much, bless you with LOVE

No one need remind me of expressions on your face

Deep in my heart

Below - and so above

And I will grow prouder

Knowing you are mine

And yet much more than this

A sea of rhyme

Thank you, dear Shauna. Guess I feel immensely protective of both, but my son is younger. ;) Wearing our hearts outside of ourselves - watching them walking around - *sigh* Much LOVE to you and your son! :)

This is beautiful, Heaven. Sons are so special and we moms seem to protect them more than perhaps a daughter. Boys just seem so in need of mothering and ongoing protection.

Thank you for reading, dear Mike. No more powerful emotion than that of a parent for their child. :)
