I'll Take Care of You

Updated on March 12, 2013
Source

Even when dark clouds erase the sun

and the sky turns the earth black,

when there is no smile in your reflection,

I’ll take care of you.

When your heart cries

and your eyes are dry

from not sleeping,

I’ll give you what you need.

I need to open your heart

like I need the air I breathe.

When the rain is coming down

and I hear the sounds

of it hitting the ground,

I think about us

and I almost beg myself

not to drown.

When you are hurting, I am too.

And I hate it when you sleep past noon,

watch cartoons

and eat cereal without a spoon.

I hate it when you lash out at me.

You take your anger out on me,

like my heart isn't the one

that gave yours its beat.

It’s all good

cause when the sun shines again,

we'll get right again.

I can handle it

when the pressure kicks in,

but you boy you act crazy

like you're not really feeling this.

And if you're not feeling it

I’ll be glad to leave,

as long as you can give

all the time I invested

back to me.

I don't believe in breaking up

after I’ve gotten a ring.

Can you afford my dream

or have you been lying to me?

I need a king

of respect and honesty.

Even when dark clouds erase the sun

and the sky turns the earth black,

when there is no smile in your reflection

I’ll take care of you.

Let me know if I’m wasting my heart or not.

I promised myself that this time with love,

I would end on top.

You've got me

so close to dropping,

but my heart

doesn't want to stop this.

I know it’s not healthy

Please stop the confusion.

I don't know what the

hell I’m doing.

If I were doing this to you,

what would you say about me?

Would you tell me to leave

or say “I'll take care of you”?

This is another beautiful one, Ryem! Interestingly, in the beginning, when I read this stanza:

"When you are hurting......that gave yours its beat." I thought you were talking about your child, which of course, led me to thinking, it almost feels like you are the parent in this relationship. Just food for thought...

      Good luck. Up+

Mhatter, that's very nice I'm glad you like the poem. Thank you : )

Randi, I've always thought it was so interesting the way people can interpret the same poetry in different ways. I never thought that stanza sounded like a parent/child relationship. Thank you for that interesting point of view : )
