I'm a Hometown Country Boy( a lyrical poem of reflection)

I'm a homegrown boy, raised up in a small hometown,
I have some down home roots, no more big city bound.
Born near Atlanta, Georgia, had to try my wings, to fly,
Those city lights like a magnet, had to go there or I'd die.
Hometown boy, son, you learned yo lesson well,
Left yo home in the country, fell for the big city spell.
That life of drugs and drinking, no life to have to be,
Almost took yo life away from you, days to live so free.
No money to spend, none would lend, out on the street,
Weather so cold, nights so long, listening to that city beat.
Spent my time in the empty park, newspaper for a spread,
Park bench was so hard, so stiff, every night to dread,
Refrain...Hometown boy, son, you learned yo lesson well,
Left yo home in the country, fell for that big city spell.
That life of drugs and drinking, no life to have to be,
Almost took yo life away from you, days to live so free.
In dreams, I saw my mamma. happy days spent on the creek,
No more, good times, sweet smells, sunshine, all we like to seek,
Gas and fumes, all fill the air, loud traffic noise, the blinking lights,
Makes yo mind to spin and turn, just to think about those sights.
Refrain: Goes here again..
I got to get back to my home, somehow, now I'm country bound,
Blue skies and songbirds in the days, crickets in the night,
Georgia roads are dusty sometimes, beats asphalt anytime,
My home a touch of heaven, where my days, are all so bright.
Country boy, hometown boy, now you're heading home.
Mama's standing on the porch. daddy and brothers, I see.
Welcoming me back to the life, where I"m so used to be.
Lazy days and my country ways, no more city lights for me,
Now that home grown, hometown boy is coming home.
that down home, country boy... he's heading back home.
