How In God's name can anyone shoot First graders to death??

At the crack of dawn
where I stand wedged
in warm boots,
snug jacket and gloves,
on a cold winter day,
I can see only purity.....
stretched out before me
like the New Year
freshly fallen.
All of the flaws of
man against nature
buried in clean sheets of white
like poetry not yet written.
Would that it could be so easy
to erase the mar of man's follies,
that taint our world.
Blackened souls filled with
the crystal white of a fresh start.
All that led us to darkness frozen
and then melted in grateful tears
under the warm love
of the sun of God.
the Son of God.....
Somewhere miles
from my morning post
on my deck that floats
high above sterile white,
near a Sandy Hook that is left
anything but tropical
lie twenty mounds
that blanket innocence.
Near six more mounds that
shroud those who sought
and died to protect it.
All of the horror buried
beneath natures cleansing
in a most chilling way.......
And so I pray that come
the Spring thaw
we will have found a way
to honor these fallen
with letters and bulletins...
....less the bullets.
In a blizzard of demands
to our leaders
to establish the security
badly needed
on all campuses
and school grounds
to prevent any more
mounds of white
come the next snow fall...
We must never forget
"The 20 that fell in the 12th year "
of a new century.....
It is a bookmark of tragedy
we must return to often
until the story left unfinished
is rewritten happily ever after.
For all the children
who still face the threat
of souls so dark
that even nature itself
cannot purify
their hideous flaws.
I turn to go in
my body numb
from a sudden chill
that is not snow,
when I bump into my own son
who wonders at the frozen tear
that mars my cheek.
But I just embrace him
and tell him I love him,
as he gets ready for me
to drop him off at school
to face another year
of what I hope will be
as pure as the driven snow
I have just abandoned.
Peace to you and yours in this New Year.....
with a lessening sorrow for all our tomorrows
as we as parents make apparent our demands
for a secured and safe environment for our
precious children to be schooled at.
