Independent Writing and the Beginning of A New Life

Updated on March 28, 2013

I'm moving on

When I decided that I no longer wanted to live the life I was living, I knew that I had to make some tough choices. I was willing to remove extraneous distractions from my life in order to gain a sense of peace and a better understanding of who I wanted to be. This is why I left the corporate world and decided to make my own destiny.

I was tired of working all day every day. Each day spent away from my family is a day I can never reclaim. In order to maximize my finite time here on earth I decided to find a way to work for myself, doing something I love: writing.

There are many opportunities online for people who love to write. Writing must be a passion for you and like most things, the more writing you do, the better you'll be at it. Where to begin? How do you even begin to make money writing? The answers lie in your motivation.

Types of online writing jobs

Content Writers

To be a content writer, you almost certainly won't make any money at first. This is a strategy that is like a marriage. You'll get greater returns through time. There are many content site you can write for that will earn you residual, or passive income. This means that you may not see any money for a while, but your work can continue to generate income indefinitely.

Ghost Writers

There are many sites available that you can go to for ghost writing jobs. Many people have ideas they need to get documented but don't have the linguistic ability. This is where you can fill in the gap. From novelists to technical writers, the ghost writing community is very large and diverse.

Ebooks

The world is your oyster when it comes to eBooks. You can write about any subject you'd like. You can create the content that you want to create. However, you have to keep in mind that this is a very saturated market and you may not find instant success. Like Content Writing however, patience will reward you.

SEO

This is by far the most active and lucrative way to earn money online by writing. SEO (Search Engine Optimization) writing is easy and quick, but tricky at the same time. You must learn to write naturally and fluently yet also incorporate certain client supplied keywords at a specified density. You probably won't earn a lot in the beginning, you have to build up your credentials first. Most SEO writing sites are based upon a rating system. Once you have reached a certain level of submitted content and rating, you'll have access to higher paying gigs.

All It Takes Is Dedication

Writing for money takes a passion and dedication. There are no free rides though, so if you want to be extremely wealthy, you will have to work very hard. It can be done, but it requires diligence and fortitude. This is one area where there are no lack of jobs, all it takes is a firm commitment.

The few ways mentioned above should get you started researching the field of writing for money online. However, don't expect to pay off a McMansion right away. Like anything worthwhile, getting paid for writing will take time and patience, but the results are very fulfilling.
