Inspirational Life Quotes
I have put together a short list of inspirational quotes about life. These are actually quotes that have a special meaning to me, and I have added some comment about how they apply to me and how they inspire. I hope someone out there finds some inspiration in them as well.
Choose Your Battles Wisely
Injustices are done to us every day of our lives. We get scolded by our boss for a mistake that is not our doing, and which we don't even have a hand in. Or somebody cuts the queue in front of us. Or our significant other pulls a long face, refuses to talk about it and blames us for not being communicative. The list goes on.
We can stand on the principle of the matter, and seek to right the injustice. Unfortunately, it will probably take too much time and effort, and we will spend the major part of our lives seeking restitution.
It would be better to take the attitude that the slight is unintentional, and it probably is in many cases, and let the matter drop. We should choose to fight the battle only when the time and effort is warranted.
Men often become what they believe themselves to be. If I believe I cannot do something, it makes me incapable of doing it. But when I believe I can, then I acquire the ability to do it even if I didn’t have it in the beginning. - Mohandas Gandhi
There is something magical that happens when you really believe that you can do something. Suddenly, your world seems to revolve around that goal. You will think and do your goal. All your actions will take you one step closer to your goal. People that can help you towards your goal start to drop like flies out of the woodwork. Such is the power of really believing in something, if you will just believe.
Failure happens all the time. It happens every day in practice. What makes you better is how you react to it. - Eric Cantona
I don’t know if it is true, but I have heard it said that on Silicon Valley, if you do not have one failure on your resume, your resume is not complete. Admittedly, nobody likes to fail. But failure brings with it lessons that success never can. A man who has faced failure is more hungry for success, and shows that he has the character to try again. I’d want him on my team.
Do not follow where the path may lead. Go, instead, where there is no path and leave a trail. - Ralph Waldo Emerson
Not sure if this applies to everyone but it feels like this one's meant for me. I considered myself a rebel when I was younger and hated the word conform. I have mellowed down a lot now that I'm older, but I still don't feel the need to be part of a group, and by and large still do my own thing.
“Pressure? What pressure? Pressure is poor people in the world trying to feed their families. Working from dawn till dust just to feed their young. There is no pressure in football. - Jose Mourinho
Although this quote is about football, it applies equally well to life as well. Too often we expand our problems so that they practically take on a life of their own so that even a paper cut feels like a raw gaping wound. Try looking at things in its proper perspective and your problems might not be so big or unmanageable after all.
One day your life will flash before your eyes. Make sure its worth watching. - Unknown
Scary, isn't it? One day, and it might be sooner than you think, you are going to be no longer on this earth. Legend has it that just before you make your exit, your life will flash before your eyes.
It gives me the shivers just thinking about it. Up until now, my life is not really a movie worth watching. I don't know about you, but I do want the last movie that I watch to be a record breaking blockbuster, and I'm doing what I can to make sure that at least I don't sleep through the movie. If you want your movie to be a blockbuster as well, then what are you doing still reading this?
