Inspired By A Stranger (a poem)

Updated on June 19, 2012

It was a traffic jam

and certainly my time to cram

for a test coming anon.

The police officer,

with so much time to spare,

flicks his arms in the air

blows his whistle, stops our lancer,

and tells us of a 10K

A rush of blood strikes my face.

Hyperventilating,

"I'm going to be late!"

For my test is approaching.

Source

I glance around

There was no hope to be found

Until I saw her,

A racer chasing the stars.

She was beautiful.

In every aspect beautiful.

Purely beautiful...

A beautiful harmony she was

Slapping the ground,

Her feet were racing the wind

Chasing the future.

Aiming to win.

Source

Her stride accelerates

Her speed escalates

A trickle of sweat

Gently runs down her face.

Her breasts heaving

Her arms swinging

Muscular and healthy

She was beautiful...

Source

She was an image...

An image of determination

Inspiring me to this day.

When I run...I see her

Running, like a musical symphony.

Strong, determined, tenacious

Won't stop until the finish line

When I see her image, I realize

That I was inspired by a stranger...

LailaK: LOVED THIS! I truly believe MUCH of our inspirations come from strangers. I have had what I consider to be "Holy Encounters" from strangers.

Your description was phenomenal, and I LOVE the pictures. I am so inspired by runners, in fact, check out the book, "Chicken Soup For The Runner's Soul" ....you would love it.

One question: Did you make it to your exam on time! BLESSINGS, SPARKLEA :) :) :)

Sparklea, thanks for stopping by! Yes, we can get inspired by anybody, anyday, and at anytime. My best friend loves reading the Chicken Soup series...I will definately look into that. Thanks for the suggestion!

Great question! I was a little bit late for the exam, but luckily it turns out that my teacher was participating in the 10K and she told all the testing administrators to allow late students to take the test.

Thanks a lot for stopping by, Sparklea!

It's amazing how our everyday actions can impact other people and they aren't even aware of it. I wonder what she'd think if she knew you'd written this poem in her honor...

Lisa, this year I ran the same 10K race that this inspirational runner ran. I really wish I met her in person and thanked her for inspiring me to run. Thanks for dropping by!

Life is an inner race. Running is like a spiritual metaphor. You met the same challenges of doubt, uncertainty, insecurity, fear and so forth in the inner race, as you met in the outer race. You need to keep running. True failure is when you stop or give up. Never give up! Continue! The cosmic forces will run to encourage you. Be brave, my sweet friend. Blessings.

Very true words of yours dear friend! Life is very much like a race. Each one of us has a race to run and a place to win. I'm a runner myself and I apply a lot of what I encounter on the roads to my own personal life :) I greatly appreciate your comment and your time for reading my words! Thank you!

I write because I feel your inner potential. I have taken the opportunity to serve because you are not only young but show much promise.

In your pursuit of self-transcendence, you will make much progress. Try to feel more and act intuitively. Join a relaxation or meditative group. Or play some of my videos in the Love poems a.m before work or college. They are not love poems but poems dedicated to Something Higher. Feel peace within. Write to me should you need advice. Much peace.
