we are just so many interlocking pieces

our edges planed to touch and nestle

our shared vision

a glistening upon an even surface

but every once in a while

a nub

which should fit

just doesn't.

perhaps overeager fingers

pushing and pulling in search of sky.

edges roughened

communion sought

and found

by wholes or halves

until its nub

is rubbed clean.

Hi Perspycacious! Thank you for reading! Yes--teaching a bunch and also trying to get some pieces published--but I still love the sense of community here!

Here you are! I looked at recent activity and all I found for the past eight weeks were comments. This is too good a poem to think that you might have slowed your output? Too much vocal coaching for dollars? Nice that you are still active here.

You nailed it! interlocking pieces indeed we all are. No matter how different things maybe, always remember we share something in common. this is a wonderful poem that could easily apply to anything... good job!

What a great metaphor for your poem, creative, evocative and altogether lovely, including the image.

How very true! There is a softness to the words yet so powerful in meaning as “until its nub rubbed clean.” Stunning work…simply stunning.

Good analogy. Some of us have jagged edges and others have been so sanded down by the hardships of life so that we try to fit just about anywhere.

Audrey-it's your Form that elicits all this awe from your fans. It's your Form that jolts the reader into new awareness, that compels her/him to read your poems again and again. Any knuckle-dragging idiot can say, "like, y'know folk's are like different like the way they like try t'get together, y'know.....like?" Good poetry needs to be BREATHED, read aloud, honouring the line length and pauses. There lies the music, beautifully apparent here. Your poems occasionally need a little work at the front and back ends, as you've said yourself. But not here. This is a gem.

Audrey, you have such talent. Your poems always have the most beautiful ending lines and stanzas. You close your ideas so gracefully. Jamie
