It Feels So Right

Updated on March 17, 2015

Making You Smile

Where I could be anywhere

I choose to be here

Giving each other company

When the day can be long

There are many ways we can make a difference

Sharing stories or changing someone's mood from sad to just a little better

It is easy to live our life

Far away from a brick faced building

With many cars and an ambulance waiting

We spend so much time in work ,watching t.v. , running errands

Do we want to forget

The people that are left

In nursing homes across the country

Waking up every day

Not feeling great or having the time of their life

In a place where they can not leave

Yet so necessary to keep them safe

Forgotten and left alone except for the nurses aides and nurses

Doctors and social workers

The hallways and activity room is over flowing with patients who are dealing with their own difficult situations

Watching as visitors come and go

Looking at four walls and a small window across the room

A television left on to drown out the loneliness

The beautiful home we once new

Replaced piece by piece

With a stuffed animal or a book

A small bed side table with a box of Kleenex

A small styrofoam cup filled with water with a bendable straw just within an arms reach

Tiny hard candies or cookies as treats

Waiting, waiting

To be eaten

A collage of family pictures squished in a corner

An extra blanket and pillow piled high on a chair

The sound of unfamiliar voices and constant buzzing

How different our life has changed

Our home and all our objects of affection

All our rooms and furniture traded for a plain wooden bureau with no mirror

So we can not see our past and the life we have lived

Now we are in a place

Wondering if we are forced

To spend our remaining days

How sad

Stop and think

For this moment

A glimpse to our own future

See if we would be just as happy

Now I lean back instead of rushing out

Take a long breath as I hear a woman moan

Feeling how hard it must be to get comfortable

Fixing your pillow one more time

Eating meals that I have only two choices

Neither one not being tasty or mouth watering

Even the sunlight looks dim

Erasing all my bad or unhappy thoughts

Time to create

I let every happy memory fill my mind

Closing my eyes

Thinking what it means to be kind

How to take this moment and make it magical

Talk or tell a story that makes a flower bloom

Bring back the sound of rain

Followed by a sudden boom

Take in every ounce of life and spread it far and wide

This is the only way

I would want to spend my day

Feeling joy and all there is

Where we are we can not change

Who we are is what really matters

Finding one more way to receive

A love so deep

Such a special gift

Learning what it really means to give

Gypsy Rose Lee I believe with practice we can put everything in life to poetry. All we have to do is listen to the silent music and share it with the world. Thank you reading and listening to the music play.
