It comes to rust

Updated on September 7, 2012

To rust is where it goes

For rust is,

in itself,

and overwhelming.

Within rust lies

the wisdom of nature,

the color of nature.

Rust knows

whence it comes

and rust knows

where it goes.

and rust waits,

upon time,

waits laughingly

and patient

for the shiny and strong,

the powerful and cunning

while rain and shine

dust and grime

lay waste to all

that is shiny

and strong.

Away goes young strength;

dim becomes the shine

until what stays

Is rust.

But rust knows

whence it comes

and rust has won

for in rust

is the wealth of time,

of dust,

and grime.

I take that as a great compliment, thank you Grace.

It's such a transparent piece...and then again, not.

Thank you exstatic. Rust comes in many forms, not all of which show in metal objects.

This is a really interesting poem about something we see a lot, but take little notice of unless it affects our tools or autos. As a poem, it does leave a mealncholy sense with me too.
