It's The Climb

Updated on February 17, 2013

Keep on climbing.

As I write this article I am listening to the X Factor version from the winner Joe Mc Elderry of Mylie Cyrus' hit 'The Climb'.Don't worry I have included Mylie's version as well.

It really sums up what our lives are all about not just as writers but as human beings.

Life today is full of instant this and instant that. Everybody wants it all NOW. But, as you and I well know, NOW, is just not the way to do it. To achieve something significant takes time and that four letter word....WORK. And I am not talking about employment either. Or maybe I am. We have to employ ourselves and become CEO's of our own companies. Why?. Because we are ultimately responsible for our own destiny, as is the CEO of a large organisation.Yes the Buck stops here I am afraid.

To make money and plenty of it means we have to be dedicated in some way and to have a vehicle to get it. For many that vehicle could be the internet. Let's face it that is the medium you think is going to make you successful. How do I know that? Because you are reading this article and it is on the internet and nowhere else.

I'm not sure that when I started to write this that it would take the shape of a money making, you can do it style motivational piece. That was never my plan. It was to be motivational..yes and I hope this does move you into some form of ACTION, because let's face it, that is what propels us forward as CEO's in our own companies ( our own lives ).It's just that we never realise this and just continue along the path of least resistance that turns out to be mediocrity. Now I don't want that and I am sure you don't either. So read on.

I have never been happy with the status quo. Never been happy just to go out to work everyday for up to twelve hours, do the work then go home, go to bed, get up and do it all again.I am convinced that you can see the rut in the road that I appear to be carving everyday. It goes from my front door all the way to my place of work...and back again.I have done that for the last thirty years and it get's harder. Harder without a plan or a vision of what life can be all about.

Oh my I am truly off on one now.

The what is life all about rant.

Well someone needs to rant to get both you and I off our big behinds to make something of our lives before it is too late.

Climb up this?

The Climb

So we started off with the title of The Climb. And it is a climb. It is an uphill battle. But we get through it and often with flying colours. We raise kids, work to feed them, nurture them and hopefully provide them with the necessary tools to go out and get what they want in life. How to be their own CEO.

That is how it works insn't it, well isn't it?

Mmmm not so sure are you?

You have got where you want to be ...right, so why not teach the kids to do the same. Oh of course you are doing that, silly me.

WRONG! if we all did that and we all knew how to get where we want to go and have the vehicle to do that we would pass it on and everybody would have the Goose that lays the golden egg. Some people though, do have that and you know why? Because they use the four or so inches between the ears to make it happen. Yes they use there God given brains to work out the system for getting where they want to go, then teach anybody who wants to do the same. Above all they teach their kids the same principles they live by and wham...success!

So why can't you or I do that or why haven't you or I done that. Because we are too busy trying to get through life on a day to day basis that we overlook all the opportunities that life is offering. How sad is that. Closed off in our own little world and everyday opportunity is knocking at our doors.

Listening to our inner voice is difficult to listen to on a daily basis. Often you know what it is saying to you makes sense, yet we choose to ignore it. Why!?

Because we are so busy doing things for the boss that we forget there is a life outside work. The CEO in us switches off and concentrates on being a worker, a follower. You get home at night and tell yourself you are so tired because of The Job that all you can do is sit in front of the box in the corner. The brain draining machine known as a television. Over the last six months or so my evenings have been taken up on this project. As the CEO of poshcoffeeco Inc, it is my responsibility to put in the work on this project, because if I don't, nobody else will. And that is the same for You Inc . Whatever you have chosen to do to complete your dream, your vehicle for success, you have to remember that there is only you who can do it. Be the hero in your family, focus and blast the thing apart, whatever it is you are doing to get you there.

Fortune favours the brave

This is really weird. As soon as I remembered that quote I got a strange rush of feeling run through me. A feeling that I have been here before and written this article before. Of course I haven't written this before but I have probably been over it in my head a thousand times. So as a result I am getting it all out in the hope that you may have had a similar feeling and understand my urge to get it down on paper.

If fortune does really favour the brave then I hope my fortune is on the way.As part of my climb it means that I have to live by that quote understanding that you and I have to be brave and put any feelings of defeat and demoralisation out of our heads.Defeatest vocabulary like ' I can't' or 'I don't know how' or even ' I will never be able to do that' has got to be buried. It must be replaced with vocabulary like 'I can' or 'I will'.

It is amazing to think that a shift in thinking and a shift in what you say to yourself is all you need to turn defeat and failure into winning and success. I know I have a hard time getting my head round it. But, recent events in my life and my reactions to events have led me to believe that what we think really does affect the things that happen to us in everyday life.

You see our lives are a self-fulfilling prophecy. What we think about the most actually does happen. This is because our sub-conscious mind get's to work on the thoughts we most think about.

You will now understand that in order to get where we want to go we must all change our thinking patterns. Think about the things that we do want and not the things we don't want. Even thinking about things we don't want want make our minds act to start to find ways to deliver even the things we don't want. Now that is so powerful.

The view from the top

There is room at the top

As you can see there is plenty of room at the top.Very few people understand the concepts that propel everyday people to greatness just by changing the way they think. Surely it can't be that easy.If it was that easy everybody would be doing it wouldn't they?

Proof then, that it isn't that easy to change the directions that our lives are headed. The fact that you have recognised this means that you understand and that you can now put forward a plan for You Inc to move on and achieve everything you can dream off. You have the vehicle, you have the tenacity, the drive, the determination to succeed. You can't put this off forever and now is the time to act. Be brave and never give up. Be prepared to change your plans in order to achieve your dreams and make small steps in a forward direction, everyday. If you are strict with yourself and do something for You Inc everyday momentum will build and before you know it you will be setting even bigger more challenging targets and goals for yourself.

Set time aside each day to review where, as CEO, your business is going and readjust for things which are not quite going to plan.

Strange how things turn out.

Yes it is weird how things turn out. Even writing this has made me believe even more about the power of our thoughts and how we can envisage a different life for ourselves. Great things all start with a person having a vision.Today's advances in technology are proof of this. Every invention you see around you began as a vision for one person. And, that one person's tenacity and belief and never giving up has made this world what you see today.

Find your place with your vision of your future and work steadily towards the winning post. Chances are the winning post will be constantly moved as you get closer to it because your life's work for You Inc may never be complete. It is my opinion that you will keep on setting higher targets as you smash through every target you set for yourself.

Success breeds success and as you become a success in your own right remember and reflect on the journey and appreciate that It's The Climb which set you on your way to success.

Another great motivational hub Steve. " Great things all start with a person having a vision." You have that vision and it looks like you're on the road to great! Voted up, useful and interesting.

Enjoyed this article and gave it "thumbs up"

PS. I hoodwink people sometimes into thinking I only like classical music, but - truth be known - I enjoy Mylie from time to time as well... ;-)

Great article Steve, I am delighted to have found you. You are not just a great, enthusiastic entrepreneur which I am learning much from but also a very fine writer in your own right. I love both the inclusion of current events as well as analogy and personal commentary. The videos and photos were simply fantastic. Your commitment to quality and detail as well as your consistent search for new avenues for writing and blogging are absolutely astounding and you are constantly giving this old dog new ideas to write about. Great job. I voted UP and all across.

One heck of a fantastic hub! Sort of makes me want to go on a military drill - Who's the boss? I'm the boss, sir! Well you get the picture. I've been climbing by small steps and I'm hoping this year I'll make it to the top. Thanks for the inspiration. Voted up!

Thanks for sharing your thoughts poshcoffeeco, your hub is very inspiring. In my case it is timely too. After more than a decade and a half of working for the government, I've decided to work for myself and open a small business. Going to start climbing again but this time I'm in control and I'm doing it on my terms.

Fantastic hub for those starting out on HubPages or trying to start any new business venture. The money sure doesn't come overnight - it takes a lot of hard work, marketing, and patience. Great job - voted up and awesome! Good luck with your 30 hubs!

I saw this hub on the feed and just had to read it. I really do like it. I like the concept of You Inc, also and being my own CEO. We started another business in 2002 and so I am aware of the concept. But I like applying it to my business also.Great hub!

Thirty years? You've been working thirty years? My rut is six years old, and it started getting old three years into it. So, I began dreaming of the next thing - not the next thing NOW, but the next thing I was gonna do because the status quo isn't where I want to be. You hit the nail on the head and thank you for having the courage to write this. Great hub! :)

Just came across this hub. Loved it! Really like the concept of being our own CEO. Sometimes I think it would be better to get back to the basics in life. But I love HubPages and many of the other good things progress brings. It's just being able to stay balanced that I find difficult. Thanks!

Well said, great writing also. Jerry Seinfeld explained his method for success: each January, he hangs a large year-at-a-glance calendar on his wall and, for every day he wrote new material, he had the exquisite pleasure that can only come from drawing a big red "X" over that day.

Drawing those Xs got to be pretty fun and rewarding, so he kept doing it. Eventually, he began to create a chain of red Xs. The idea was to never break the chain!!!

Great hub! I like the "You Inc" concept. We are so used to getting things fast and on the spot (fast food comes to mind!) that I think we tend to forget what it's like to work hard and stick to it. I will gladly share this hub with my followers:)

I have to say I think this is one of my favorite articles by you. As I was reading it the person I live with had the nerve to ask when I was going to stop goofing off for the evening. I had to dig up the motivation to reply that I was working and not simply goofing. One day all this work will be rewarded if I stick with it and smash through my goals, like your article says! Great hub PC
