Just Another Day - Poetry
Alarms ring out,
The day begins
She pushes snooze
Just ten more mins...
She lies and waits
For the next alarm,
It won't be long
Before she calmly
Goes about her
Morning chores,
Breakfast
School run,
Closing doors
On what her life
Could have been
Had different choices
Been her scene...
Then she would
Her husband wake,
If he was late
It was her mistake!
She'd pay for that
In the evening too,
So easier
Just to do
Everything.
He'd go to work
She would be free
Only
In reality
Not really.
Because she had a job
To get some cash
For bills and food
And of course
The housework too
Needed doing
Every day
Trying to keep
The mess at bay
The mess that echoed
In her mind
Kept hidden
Mostly
From behind
The calm she showed
The outside world
No-one knowing
How she felt...
The sadness growing
Deep inside
Every time her
Husband lied
And nothing ever
Good enough,
Housework
Dinner
All that stuff!
And jokes were made
At her expense,
Respect
And love
Once commonplace
Seemed to disappear
With time
And left she was
Within her mind,
Sinking as the darkness grew
Into a ball
That would consume
The light that lived inside her soul,
Living
Was her only goal.
To fail would be
A huge relief
But she kept her
True belief
That her family needed her,
So to continue
As they were...
At least for now
She thinks
Alarms..
It's time
And up she gets
Her daily grind.
