KNOW MY NAME

Updated on November 21, 2011
Source

You want

And you need

You’re getting in

My way

I desire

You

Expect

It can’t be

Both ways

You do not matter

You have no worth

I have certain

Rights

Given me by my birth

You are a no one

Just another mouth to feed

You have nothing to offer

But me … I am GREED

Inseparable, maybe but self-control is the key. We must each keep our desires in check so that they don't become greed. Or if we are to be greedy, let us be greedy for peace and love, for finding answers to making our world more healthy, beautiful and available to all people and not just us, the chosen few.

I am honored you have read something of mine. Thnak-you for coming by!

....well you never pull any 'poetic' punches and that is what I always admire about your writing style - I never know what to expect and you always keep me on my toes - and most importantly, you inspire and influence my writing style as well .......always love having you over for a visit - people see 'you' and think that the epi-man must be doing something right - and I am - I have you as a great friend and esteemed colleague.

Genna, I am always so honored when you stop by! The poem alone would not have much impact without the picture. It really is wonderfully bizarre! I am a very visual person and finding the right photos to put with my writing is so difficult sometimes. In another hub I wrote recently, "Two Colleagues", I really feel I over did it with photos and they were not what I would have chosen if I'd had more options. I have to learn to let some of my writing stand on it's own merit I think. But this one, I was delighted with the mixture.

Thank-you so very much for your comment and your time!

Oh, Pooh, this gave me chills. Unhappily, greed is alive and well everywhere. Even in this country, sad to say. The mortgage crisis, and the greed that fueled it that set up the domino crash that caused certain people to lose their life’s savings and much more through no fault of their own, is just one example. When will we learn? Up and awesome, Pooh!

That is truth! Greed makes me ill. We all have so much in comparison to the largest percentage of the world's population and even in our country of wealth there are people going hungry and without adequate housing and health care.

Very powerful poem. Love the pic. Can't get any more eerie than that. I think greed is at the root of most problems in the world these days, yet very little is done to keep it in check. The more "toys" you have the more acceptable it is to be greedy.

You know Jesus said something like You will always have the poor with you.I wonder if he meant abject poor and suffering.Hard to deal with that concept.

you are right, before the advent of global media,we didn't hear about these countries that ate their young.

The US is the most generous nation on Earth, so we are amazed and saddened at the greed of third world countries.

Hi babygirl! I just came from your hub ... lol

Actually this was written after I read an article about India's new poverty level solution. Instead of using the stockpiles of food, grain and resources they have, it is sold on the Black Market, diverted for other profit and people are left in the most abject poverty. The global community has been paying attention to this and so the government has just raised the dollar amount that determines who is living in poverty. That way they think it appears to the world they are not starving as many of their people as they are.

I would not know if this was true or not if it wasn't for the modern technology of the internet and having some new friends and contacts through Hub Pages who live in India. They were born into wealthy families and live well, but they are shocked and sickened by the conditions in their country. I wrote this poem the day after I learned of this truth, but it could apply to many countries and situations.

    Well written ,but disturbing.

I don't get it that you are Greed if that's what you're saying.

I do get it that you may need a few more hands.

I'm feeling dumb this morning.Maybe you could write some more of that feeling?

Know your enemy and make sure he doesn't infiltrate your soul!

MT - "P.S.-Have you written anymore Verdict articles as of late? I think I read two. Let me know because I'll be right over to read them when they are done:)" That story is hopefully going for publication so I'm not posting any more chapters here ... keep your fingers crossed for me!!!

Greed is from Satan the devil and he uses it to destroy people. It is nasty and evil. That picture is disturbing. Wow, it certainly shows greed in its truest form.

P.S.-Have you written anymore verdict articles as of late? I think I read two. Let me know because I'll be right over to read them when they are done:)
