Kaydence
My wife and I run a Portland Oregon Non-Profit called Hope's Healing Hearts where we make weighted hearts for women who have lost their babies to Miscarriage, Stillbirth, SIDS or other forms of infant loss. One of the mothers (Katie Blanchard) lost her daughter Kaydence Leialoha in a mid-term miscarriage. We have become good friends since, and after listening to her pain and trying to help to love and support her, I wrote this for Kaydence Leialoha.
KAYDENCE
A rhythmic echo remains within,
Raising me upward toward the window,
Hands cup the womb,
Home
The place where I see and feel your shadow.
With each breath I feel memories still,
Slowed into fractured images of dreams once knew,
Confused and empty I wonder what source,
Could sign away her essence with one stroke of a wretched red quill.
Though now arms droop hollow,
My heart aches for one last sound,
A remembrance of her elegant flutter,
Provides sustenance,
A lasting gift of her existence within,
Her will
Her resound.
My life forever changed,
Paths altered from past to present,
Thankful still for time given,
The love,
The transference of soul across space-time,
By my dear Sweet Kaydence.
