The Forth Missive

Difference between Keepers and Simple-tongues

In the years after the Curse of the Broken-tongue, Keepers began to realize how profound the effects of the curse were. When Malech HaOlam took away Mother-tongue from the non-Keepers, he took away far more than just the ability to speak man’s original language. He took away man’s ability to think clearly. Certain talents and skills were no longer available to man in their pure form.

You need to understand some things about Mother-tongue. You would know them if you were not subject to the Curse of the Broken-tongue. So, you have no way of knowing what I am about to explain.

Mother-tongue is more than language. It is the way the human mind works. No Keeper learns Mother-tongue because it is inherent to our nature. Keeper babies do not need to learn Mother-tongue. They do not speak as an adult does at the moment they are born, for their minds are not adult minds. As their minds develop toward maturity, the concepts and thus the language matures. There is a learning that is involved in Mother-tongue. The learning is not of the language, but of certain words and names. Still this is far different than the learning of your children. Our children speak much sooner than yours.

Broken-tongues have to be learned

Simple-tongues, as you know, have to learn their language. When Malech broke the Mother-tongue, it splintered into many different languages. There are Keepers that believe that each of the first broken languages kept a portion of the Mother-tongue in them. Man’s tongue divided and each of the pieces carries an aspect of the original. That is one theory. Whether it is true, I know not.

As new languages have descended, they have moved farther from the original. The aspects of the original are still there, just buried. And the King f Peace prophesied that one day, Malech HaOlam will lift this curse. Men of Motherworld will once again speak the Mother-tongue.

To us Keepers, the Jews seem a prideful people in some respects. Some of them have said that their language, Hebrew, is the Mother-tongue. Those Jewish Keepers know the truth. They understand as most Keepers in general do, that as one of the oldest languages on Motherworld, Hebrew is perhaps the closest to the Mother-tongue. But as it was broken like the other tongues, it is not complete. Still there are many surprising similarities between Hebrew and Mother-tongue.

Keeper Aptitudes

Now, as to how some Hebrews became Keepers, that is another story altogether. I will have to tell you about that, maybe in my next missive.

Besides the fact that Keepers still have Mother-tongue, there are many aptitudes, talents, and skills that we still have. Because the Simple-tongues have lost Mother-tongue, they usually do not retain these gifts from Malech. These gifts have three categories:

Aptitudes: inherent abilities, physical and mental, that surpass others, especially Simple-tongues. These usually manifest naturally from a very early age.

Talents or Skills: are abilities that usually manifest at the second stage of maturity (usually around 20 to 50 years of age). While not all Keepers have skills, most have some. Some skills are extremely rare.

Trained skills: These are developed like many Simple-tongue skills are developed. But I do add these as a category of Keepers distinctive because you Simple-tongues do not have any occupations that take a hundred years of training. Some of our occupations take at least that long. Only Keepers could learn these, because you just do not live long enough.

Simple-tongues

The Keepers that guarded the Gate on Motherworld watched the Simple-tongues after the Curse of the Broken-tongue. They started realizing that they lost mental clarity. They lost as much as the beasts lost when Malech took away the beasts’ languages. Simple-tongues became like beasts to the Keepers now.

Simple-tongues life spans continued to diminish in the years following the breaking of Motherworld. Keepers do not know if this is because of the breaking of the world and the wrath of the daystar or if this was because of the curse of the Broken-tongue. Perhaps it was both. And it is true that we Keepers do not live as long as our fathers used to, but we still see 500-600 years. Simple-tongue became like grass in the eyes of Keepers. For you now only live 70 or 80 years! You live your whole life in the time it takes a Keeper to close out his youth.

Keeper Skills

So, let me tell you about some of the Keeper skills. Some Keepers of History tell us that even we Keepers have lost skills since the breaking of Motherworld. The most widely used skills or talents are the communication ones. Many Keepers are able to speak with the skill we call “hearing” as in “all hear.” Many of those that go into the Beast Guild or the Simple-tongue Guild have this skill. It allows them to speak so that anyone can understand them, beasts or Simple-tongue. Then there is a very rare skill that is called “speaking” as in “all speak.” To whatever level of skill the Keeper possesses, this allows someone to understand what a Simple-tongue or a beast says, even if the Keeper has not learned that language. Of course, it is usually much easier for a Keeper to learn any Simple-tongue or beast tongue he wishes. I say this because it is easier for a Keeper to learn any broken language than it is for a Simple-tongue to learn his first language. Remember that here on Otherworld, the beasts have not been cursed to lose their mother-tongues. For Otherworld has never been broken like Motherworld was.

Some Keepers have the skill of commanding. If a Keeper has this skill, he will usually go into the Judgment Guild. It is a very useful skill. This skill, as with most skills, has levels of ability. But a Keeper with this skill can cause a person to do what he commands even without the person agreeing to obey. This only works if the Keeper actually has the authority to command it. If he does not, it will not matter how strong his skill level is. He will never be able to command someone to do something to do anything that he has no authority to command.

This is a skill that Keepers are wary of using around Simple-tongues. If a Simple-tongue experiences this, they often call it magic or sorcery. So, Judgment Keepers use this skill very sparingly, if they have it at all.

There is a legend that the sons of Fury had the skill of fear. They could simply speak fear to the listener and the listener would be influenced. The level of terror was, again, dependant on the level of the speaker’s skill. But it was one skill that was greatly dreaded among the Keepers. It may just be a legend.

There are other skills of physical ability that Keepers have that Simple-tongue do not. Beside the fact that Keepers live so much longer than Simple-tongue, they are usually much faster than their Simple-tongues cousins. They are always stronger than Simple-tongues. The Simple-tongues that left Motherworld did regain some of their strength, speed, and longevity when they came to Otherworld. Keepers were still stronger these Simple-tongues. These Simple-tongues only live to be 200-250 years old.

The Seven High Guilds

I will say one more word about the Keeper’s education system. Each guild has its own colleges. There seven high guilds at the highest level. To be admitted to one of these guilds, a Keeper must go through a lesser guild.

There are many guilds besides those that I told you about last time. There is the Plant Guild which is very respectable. They are a lesser guild but very profitable. The can make a plant or tree to your specifications, size color, and desired produce. There are the Gate Keepers of course who can teach you the shape of reality. They understand it better than any other. The Priestly Keepers can teach you the names of all the stars. They tell you the stories the stars tell and the songs the stars sing. The Beast Keepers can tell you where to find any animal that you desire. They can teach you their languages. They can show you how to breed them to your needs. The Metal Guild can make any tool that you need. They can even make for you the metal fabric that stretches and moves with you without seam or hole. It is hot to wear, but it is impervious to razor root or razor thorn. The Healers Guild can find the precise plant, leaf, root, tea, or extract to heal your malady. There are hundreds of other guilds that can give you every witty invention or explanation for any mysterious conundrum.

So, we Keepers keep many secrets. We keep also many skills so that they are not forgotten until the time of Restoration.

Author's Note:

This is fiction of course.  I would like to designated it as "Creation Science Fiction."  Like traditional Sci-Fi, we seek to take real world ideas of science and extend them into the furthest reaches of possibility.  This is what we have done here but we have used the Bible as the source of ideas.  So, we have tried to make a world where nothing that happens nor anyone that exists is in contradiction to the truths of God's Word.  You must know that above all, we believe that the Bible is God's protected and inerrant Word.  We have woven together Biblical concepts with fiction in a way that may surprise you.  I am not suggesting that what happens here is true.  Obviously, I made it up.  But there are some things that are true.  You will need to examine and explore the Scriptures yourself to see if something is possibly true or not.  That is the real fun here, to see the Word of God come alive with possibilities that we might not have expected.  Let me close by saying my primary goal in publishing these stories is to get the children of God to examine the Bible more carefully and deeply.
