Kings and Queens

Updated on September 28, 2012

Kings and queens

on pillars

echoing memories

to flagstones.

Saying

if temples

are of solid stone;

new houses

are of dust.

Behind mirrors

survive archaic shadows

where valor still exists

as a mere shape

of events behind time,

which streams whisper

to rivers

and are lost

to the ponds

and lakes.

Knights and warriors

still wage battles

while

their simple laughter

trickles out of time

to long forgotten

kings and queens.

I also like this poem. The subject matter is different and handled well. The language is clear and the poem flowing, Battles still rage, alas, they do seem to go on forever.

I like this, especially the last few lines. Like lines from another time; very nostalgic. Wonderful reading.

I feel the same way Tammy; that is such a humbling and yet uplifting feeling. I'm glad you enjoyed this one.

Awesome poem. Many times I like to think about things that may have happened on the very soil on which I stand at any given moment if that makes any sense. Our ancestors world wide were just made of something different. Excellent poetry!

Very kind, Deborah, thank you. From one that writes as you do I take that as quite a compliment.

You are truly too kind midget38. I was cleaning out the old book and ran across this one from 1983. I was surprised that I even wanted to put it up here, let alone that anyone would enjoy it, so thanks!

Yes, indeed....valor is something that is long forgotten, Ryan. And people have long lost respect for the kings and queens in their lives. You're a wonderful writer and a great poet!
