LIFE'S TALES...by b. Malin
HAVE I GOT A STORY FOR YOU...
Let's face it, you can be Anywhere, at the Super Market, Dry Cleaners, or waiting for the Light to change and you turn and there He or She is, and you know in your heart there is a story to be told...And you're going to hear it, And I did...And now you're going to hear it as well!
I'll call my friend Jane, a woman of a "Certain Age"...very Attractive...Widowed Twice and NOT looking to bury another Husband...Of Course Not...But, still she's looking. A few months ago she is at a Party where a Male friend named Ira says to her, "Jane I've got a friend I want you to meet. Let me give you his phone number and I'll also give yours to him...Let's see what happens, you've got nothing to lose". "Is he Healthy"? Jane asked. "Like a Fine Race Horse, Ira replies back. Would I set you up with anyone who wasn't...Everyone knows you've buried two. This one is Lucky number THREE". And so Jane puts the number in her pocket book and then goes on to mingle.
A few months go by and she is at a Funeral. Her good friend "Ira" has passed away suddenly. She is standing at the open Casket looking down at him and of course feeling sad. Suddenly she feel someone beside her, she turns and smiles. He's tall and quite attractive. "Hi he says, you don't know me, but my name is Morty, Morty Weinstein. Ira, he says pointing at him in the Casket, gave me your phone number a few months back before he left for Florida. I really meant to call you, but I've been so busy...and now our Mutual Friend has brought us together, of course Not the way he had hoped I'm sure". Now they both gaze down at Ira..."He does look good with that Tan and also looks like he might have lost a few pounds". Morty said. "Mmm he does" Jane replied back, they flew him home from Florida for his funeral". "Listen Jane, let's make Ira happy...may I call you next week"? "Of course" she replied. "Well, good" he said as he turned to leave. Jane stood looking down at Ira who looked like a slight smile played upon his lips...must be the lighting she thought to herself as she turned and left the room.
Morty did call her and they have been going out for the past month...She sees him once a week, usually on a Friday or Saturday night. He has taken her to Dinner, the movies, even a Broadway Show. "Look she says, he's a Handsome, Intelligent Man, with a good sense of Humor who must be seeing other Women as well, Right? "That is probably true" I tell her, but at least you're still in the running". "Yes, yes, I am she replies happily...Do you think I should invite him for a good home cooked meal"? "Can you cook"? I ask lightly. "I'm not bad" she answers. "Then go for it...do it, but maybe call and ask him to come on a Wednesday... You Don't want to let him think you'll give up going out on Friday or Saturday" I say. I'm beginning to feel good about my advice. "You know, she says, I think I will...Oh, I'm so glad we bumped into one another...I've got to run, she says as she eyes an Attractive Man across the isle in the super market...I've still got to keep my options open...Do you think he looks Healthy?" "Yes, I replied dryly, that's Lover Man". "Wow, he looks good"! "Yes, yes, he does" I answer back as he sees me and waves... and walks towards me.
