Labor Day 1991

Updated on September 7, 2015

My Labor Day 1991

when into the world

my second son was born

A labor that went on and on

from ten at night

'til seven the next evening

How I had prepared

breathing and breathing

exercising and eating right

and then the moment came

It was as if the world stopped

that birthing day

I reached my goal

giving birth naturally

without painkillers or birthing drugs

As with my first son

my prayers I said

please let him be healthy

please let music be in his heart

And so blessed is me

for he is healthy

and plays music

sometimes quietly

sometimes loud

so if you want to check

out a mother's prayer

that came to be

Go to SoundCloud

and meet my friend, my son

who came into the world

one Labor Day weekend

My 1991 Labor of Love

My friend and son

      Suzette,

I hope he teaches as well, but he has promised to complete a Master's program first. Rather than walking in his graduation this Saturday, he and his band, Wild Honey are playing music at a local place called Galileo's.

      Sparklea,

We tease him about the beard. When he shaves, he looks like a teenager.

As I mentioned above, he graduates from Appalachian State University on Saturday. Yeah. I am proud. Thanks for reading.

      Blessings,

      Kim

ocfireflies: What a beautiful poem! I LOVE the picture of your son, and I am sure he is very honored to see your wonderful tribute. I will check out the music also. You certainly write from your heart! God bless you real good, Sparklea :)

Oh Kim: I am so glad to hear your son is an English major and Sec. Ed. major also - I hope he teaches! But, a music career for him would be wonderful too. His music is beautiful. I think I might have heard the girl sing in one of his songs, although I don't know if it was the one you mentioned. She is a teacher also - that warms my heart. You are blessed to have both of them in your life and you should be proud. Graduating magna cum laude is not easy!

      Nadine,

Thank you so much for checking out Joseph's music. Supporting him and his brother are my most important goals.

      You are much appreciated,

After I read your labor day tribute poem, which is very moving, I'm now downloading Joseph’s latest song! “I will never forget” Our bandwidth is slow, but I can't wait to listen. Thank you for being on Hubpages.

      thelyricwriter,

My apologies. Your comment slipped by me. I hope you will accept my sincere thank you at this later date. I appreciate the votes and share. I hope you are doing well.

      Suzette,

He is finishing up student teaching this semester with a degree in Eng/Sec. Ed. and graduating Magna Cum Laude. Just a little proud.

LOL. Thanks for listening to his music. One of my favorites is "Intertwine" that he performs with his girlfriend of seven years. She graduated last semester with teaching degree.

      Best to you both,

      Kim

What a beautiful tribute to your son! This poem is lovely and how appropriate he came on Labor Day weekend. LOL I have listened to some of his music and songs and they are just beautiful. I see he gets his song writing talent from you. Both of you write such wonderful and beautiful poetry. And his music is so melodic. I loved listening to his songs and I hope he does make an album.

Kim, great poetry and tribute to your second son :) It's a special moment in time that you'll always remember and I'm sure they are blessed to have such a special hero and mother. Beautiful, emotional, and touching Kim, voted up, awesome, beautiful, interesting, and shared on Facebook.

      RQ,

Calling me a "fantastic mum" is the greatest compliment a mom can receive. Thank You. One of my favorites, if you get the chance to listen to any more of Joseph's music is "Forgotten." My oldest son's middle name is Dylan for Bob and his namesake, Dylan Thomas. I have not heard of Jake Bugg, but I will look him up.

      Thanks Again,

      Kim

A great heads-up to your son Kim, who is a great talent.

' I Will Never Forget ' is a good folk song; very Dylanesque, and with flavours of Jake Bugg thrown in for good measure, and shall look forward to listening to some more of his interesting music on Soundcloud, as it looks as though he's done quite a few.

What a fantastic mum you are!

      Kindest Regards,

      R.Q.

      Jackie,

Happy Labor Day to you, too. As you can see, my Labor Day weekend is always really special. Thanks for stopping by. He wrote that song several weeks ago and had no idea I was going to do this hub.

      Shanmarie,

A realllll long labor, but worth every contraction!

      Smiles to you,

      Kim
