Life's Altering Moments

Updated on June 19, 2013

Life's Altering Moments

Life’s Altering Moments

Appear when you least expect them

Your head is looking one way

Your mind’s somewhere else

Life’s Altering Moments

Bring forth joy and hope

Then a feeling of

Fear and dread

A feeling that’s hard to cope -

With for it is in the alteration

We do grow

In ways we never know

Deliver courage

In our darkest hour

Leave us when we need them the most

Altering the chain of events

Strapping us to the proverbial whipping post

A moment can alter one’s life

Make us weak

Then ready to fight

Trick us into thinking our dreams are real

When deep down inside

An emptiness we feel

Life alters the moments of our being

Leaving us blind and never seeing

How beautiful a moment is

In the scheme of things

So much longer than we can fathom

A day so long

Phantoms and shadows

Life’s altering moments:

One day a field

Next moment a meadow

So often I have said that things can change in the blink of an eye with no warning and you never which way they're going to go, but things will never be the same again. Well said. Voted up, beautiful, and will share.

      shanmarie,

Thanks so much. Yes. Perception determines so many things in our lives. Here's hoping you have lots of meadows.

      Best Always,

I like that. .. even your last line is so cleverly written. It's all in how it's viewed, right - a field or a meadow?

Beautifully expressed life is exactly the way you have described in your lovely poem,

      Life’s altering moments:

      One day a field

      Next moment a meadow

      Great poem and voted up.

      Colin,

For you to say that I served as an inspiration to you, when you my dear sir, serve as such inspiration for not only me, but so many others is indicative of the sincerity and warmth that is you.

      Thank You!

It may be the paradigm effect/shift where we fear the unknown or resist change in our lives and yes inevitably, utimately that moment happens whether it be good or bad but always for a reason even if we don't know about it right away.

Thank you for inspiring my epi-brain to write these words to you and not only is 'poetic sermon' philosophical it's just very beautiful and a rewarding read.

Sending to you my sincere warmest wishes from Colin and his cats Tiffy and Gabriel at lake erie time ontario canada 2:22pm

      Lurana,

Your comments are always so thoughtful. Thank you for picking up on my attempt to challenge linearity.

      Gypsy Rose Lee,

Thank you for your vote and kind words. In my hometown, parking places are being replaced by shrubs and flowers. The change is sparking a great deal of controversy over which is most important. Personally, I will take a meadow over a field.

      Best Always,

      Kim

Voted up and awesome. Your last words made me think of all those times they make room for another parking lot.

Those fleeting near-epiphanies and crossroads we stumble through unconsciously...I like seeing the shadows and sudden harvests all mixed in together like this. It is more true to life than the linear organization we all try to hard to impose to make sense of it all. Humble but brilliant insights here! ~Lurana

Kim, I stopped for a moment and the moment is gone. We don't always realize how precious the moment until it becomes a memory. Your poem is beautiful and very profound .

Life does indeed tend to happen to us whilst making other plans, but some dreams can become real, I reckon, and the series of moments, and streams of consciousness, sewn together, like the untidy back of our own tapestry, will I hope, one day be turned around before it's too late, so that we , and others, can truly see that it was beautiful all along.

An interesting, and pensive piece Kim.

      Yours Sincerely,

      R.Q.
