He Lifted Himself Up To Falsehood, A Poem About Narcissism

Updated on May 26, 2012

False. Narcissism. Drama.

Depthless years

A hollow human,

Full of grand beauty

Portrayed to the public eye.

Needs Starved

Substituted By

Sweet Tasteful Words

Forced tears

Crash like waves

At the end of your eye lids,

Reserved for the public eye.

Automated Lips

Pounding constant

Devious Games

Hiding your face

From yourself,

Upholding a false image

Staging to the public eye.

Who Is To See?

The Truth

From The Lies?

Entertainment crack down

However tickets sold out,

Boo—show goes on

Glorious to the public eye.

So much of ourselves is 'for the public eye', and indeed our 'needs are starved' by this process. Our authenticity is suffocated, and we act out what we perceive to be expected of us by others. We do it so well, even we cannot fathom out our own 'truth from the lies'. Pearlmacb, your poetry is sublime. I'm very pleased to have found your work. Voted up and sharing:-))
