Like a Pizza
Like a pizza somebody sliced
Out of a bunch of different pies
To make one great big, weird pie
Hopefully the first couple of slices
Have a tender crust
Sauce not too spicy, not too sweet
Cheese is a must
Maybe the first has more mozzarella
The next more parmesan
But nothing that you will choke on
Then one will burn your palate
To teach you patience
Maybe one will stain your shirt
To teach you manners
Gradually the toppings get more
Adventurously flavorful
Early on you get the pepperoni
So tasty but full of fat
Can’t seem to get enough of that
Onions mellowed by baking
Pungent garlic and oregano
Somebody always has to try anchovies
There’s a slice with black olives and feta
For your taking or your leaving
Cheeseburger pizza is a bit over the top
And about as non-kosher as a-you can getta
Ham and pineapple pizza touted as Hawaiian
Strikes me more as Midwestern
You might find it goes great with a draught
Of beer or Coca-Cola might be your poison
Root beer is a bit less caustic
Water a drink you can always rely on
The health-minded will be attracted
To toppings such as kale and/or spinach
Arranged with a sense of style and panache
Broccoli and/or sun-dried tomatoes
Seasonings like basil or thyme
And cheese with veggie enzymes
Instead of animal rennet
And without any trans-fat in it
There’s thin crust and deep dish
Crust raised with soda or yeast
Some will make you say, “Ish”
Some you’ll regard as a feast
But every slice is different
And nobody knows exactly why
You will never know if you like it
Until you give it a try
Every bite savored
Every last one
Enjoy every flavor
Until its all gone
