Lil Mister-A Poem About A Child With Cerebral Palsy
Dedicated To My Students

I am watching him from across the way
He struggles for every step he takes
He doesn’t realize that he is special
He is just being him for goodness sakes
He was born six weeks premature
Struggled for every breath
All the doctors told his parents
To expect a certain death
But he defied those odds
He started surprising everyone
And it wasn’t long before
This little miracle turned one
He was his parents’ second child
One they hadn’t expected to see
They had been told they would have no more
They welcomed him with glee
At three months old he finally went home
Greeted by his big sister
She was very glad for her brother
She called him “Lil Mister”
The days went by, his health better
But the doctors said he would never walk
They told his mom and dad
They would be lucky if he could talk
His parents didn’t listen
To what the doctors had to say
They promised each other
That he would walk and talk one day
When he was a little older
Just a little over two
His mom got a wonderful birthday gift
When Lil Mister said “I love you!”
Not too many years later
He was just about five years old
He took his first steps
Without a hand to hold
Now it’s three years later
He has grown up so tall
He has made us all proud
After he started out so small
Dedicated to all the little children who have overcome great odds just to survive.
