Listen and be quiet

Updated on May 24, 2011

Listen and be quiet

Your life is your life,

And mine is mine.

You don’t have the right

To tell me I’m fine.

You do not live in my head,

Nor were you there for the tears I shed.

So before opening your mouth ,

Engage your brain or to that door you will be led!!!

Every one’s life has it’s own heart aches,

It is not a competition to see who’s heart breaks.

So keep your cruel words where they belong,

In side your head for every one’s sakes.

If you see someone’s pain,

Just remember their name,

And put your arms around them.

Sit in dutiful silence and listen

For that will bring more gain.

Bless you Shanaya. I hope you took it as a friend

It is not a mistake. I bet you would speak in English better than I would speak in your language. I wanted to help you and hope you go far with your beautiful expression.

    Blessed be Shanaya xx

Thank you so much B.Malin. You have given me a great compliment.

I have extremely random hubs, but that is the way with me. That is my personality. Random, happy, sad, depressed and elated. I live every feeling, but I feel truly alive because of it.x

Personal experience is not a comparative matter. One's own pain and pleasure is totally unique and what that one person feels totally. It doesn't have any 'wiggle room' as it is in progress. It's not "more or less" as compared to others'. If we make a comparison of our own situations in order to feel better as compared to those starving in some desolate place,. . . - that's one thing; but how absurd if someone else attempts to gauge these contrasts for us. We each live within our own subjective universe and it is "the all" for us at any given moment.

Empathy, if that is the aim, is better expressed with a kind touch or hug, as you say. Probably those who try to make comparisons are only trying to be kind, but haven't the clarity to think it through for their own unique reasons. So perhaps they're the ones who need a kind touch or hug for their own sad predicament! :-)

I hear you loud and clear there Flora. Everyone is entitled to their feelings and expression.

Beautiful poem.I particularily hate it when people point out that things cuold be a lot worse-i.e., you whole family hasn't died, etc. Yes, this is true, but it doesn't mean that life couldn't be a whole lot better or that I don't have the right to be crying.

Think that was my inspiration Wil.

Cogerson A simple but thoughtful thank you very much.

Truckstop Sally That is what the poem gets at. Some times people just want to let some thing out and be heard, not get advice.

Bbnix. I can't possibly ever imagine being cross at you. You have the gift of making people smile with a few sentences my friend.

You are the wise one, my very special, articulate friend...hugs it is!!

Oh, and if you don't mind me saying so (he says tepidly), I'll do my best to make sure that you and that gift of sharp words you wield are never mad at me...hmmmm

Sometimes folks don't want an answer or a quick fix . . . they just want someone to listen. Often it is hard to stay quiet -- because you have an opinion, but a good listener is a true friend.

This makes me think of a few phrases that I would imagine most could identify with. Judge not lest the be judged. If you don't have something nice to say, don't say anything at all. Do unto others as you would have done unto you. Very nice poem. Thanks for sharing.
