This is the first book in the series where you see the Little Critter trying hard to be a good helper, but something always comes in his way.

Little Critter Book Series

Back in the days when Windows 98 was the new technology, a friend shared with me some CD's with stories for children -- the Living Books series. My daughter especially liked one story. It was the Little Critter in "Just Grandma and Me" by Mercer Mayer.

It was also an interactive book where children can click through and see lots of stuff happening on the pages, aside from the main story line, that is. My daughter loved playing with the story book.

Then came Windows XP and those CD books no longer worked. Apparently, they were suited for lower resolution only.

I wasn't sure exactly what kind of critter the main character is, but he sure resembles either a hedgehog or guinea pig.

Mercer Mayer is an American children's book writer and illustrator. His well-known works include the Little Critter series as well as the Little Monster series.

I am more familiar with the Little Critter as it was one of the early books that my daughter got to like.

There are quite a number of books in the Little Critter series. I will feature as many of them here.

Just Grandma and Me

Little Critter spends the day at the beach with his Grandma. He tries to be a good little helper, but something goes wrong as always.

Just Grandma and Me

This book is one of our personal favorites. Of course, the Living Books version was a lot more interactive, but the story holds just the same.

Little Critter's sunny disposition brightens his special summer day with Grandma at the beach, despite the joys and mishaps.

I Was So Mad

Little Critter was getting mad in this book as he was not allowed to do many things, like keeping frogs in the tub, playing with the goldfish, and many more. He even wanted to run away. All's well that ends well.

I Was So Mad

This book is another one that I like. In it, Little Critter was getting mad because he was always told not to do something he wanted. It kind of reminds me when we say no to our children, because what they wanted to do was not exactly helpful. I think it's a good way of teaching children theconcept of getting mad and acting on impulse. Little Critter almost ran away, but when his friends asked him to play and his mom let him, he decided not to run away anymore.
