Lonely Tears By Candlelight (poem)

Updated on August 4, 2012

Another dream I held too tight

Has managed to slip out of sight

And so I spend another night

With lonely tears by candlelight

Here was a kiss I’d come to know

Amid this world she came to grow

And as she did she brought a glow

To one who stared into a plight

With lonely tears by candlelight

Each step I took she danced along

With every mood a special song

Amid such right what could go wrong

Those moments made we would prolong

We never had to share delight

With lonely tears by candlelight

My shadow formed another stream

Another pool another dream

At first it earned your gracious gleam

Until I made it so supreme

And blessed it with a sacred team

As she hid somewhere out of sight

With lonely tears by candlelight

And on I ranted day by bay

A child who had to get his way

She’s now a puppet for my play

Do every little thing I say

There in the mirror my dismay

Too late for she had gone away

Another dream slipped out of sight

I should have learned to hold her right

And so I spend another night

With lonely tears by candlelight

When love becomes a perversion, in the sense of possession, it inevitably becomes a sad song. Hatter, it was difficult, inspite of the sweet, lyrical tune, to get to the story. But once I read it a second time, the entire story jumped out at me- and made me feel sad. Wonderful work done here.

Like a candlelight, loneliness is...there it stands in silence, tears flowing non-stop 'til they all dry up. Awesome poem and I'd like to share this Mhatter on my Passionate Poetry page on Facebook. You are very much welcome to check it out if it interests you. Thank you.

p.s. I am more inspired now to pursue working on a poem subject -- the candle because of your poetry. I have no proper title for it yet and I will add a link to this awesome poem of yours.

      Beautiful, Mh! I think I've been there a time or two...well, holding a guy...not a girl. :)

"with lonely tears by candlelight" is such a beautiful line. Loneliness just seems to go so well with candlelight in this poem - voted up.

I love the rhythm and repetition of this poem, how you add a line to lengthen the stanzas.Well done. Beautiful work!

To have loved and lost hurts like hell. The pain is well expressed through the words you express.

      Great Job!

It's hard to lose someone and know they didn't see you at your best. Guilt and grief tend to keep each other company all the time.
