Love Keeps

Updated on June 23, 2014

When hearts reach beyond the warmth of a friend

When souls intertwine and perfectly blend

Then love is the promise you make with your life

When you exchange vows to become man and wife

And life, like a blanket of soft snow, awaits

To account and record every step that you take

For every minute thing you do soon will show...

You can never erase the mark made in the snow.

You must never forget how you felt all alone

For it helps you remember love made you a home.

You must never forget how love stands by your side

And never let love take a back seat to pride.

For love keeps the meaningless turmoil at bay

And helps you to smile as you go through your day

Love gives you focus, perspective and sight

And always stands guard as you sleep through the night

And so if you always provide love a place

And you always make love the goal of the race

Then the union in harmony always will win

Though the trials may come, you will never give in

And someday, somewhere, at the end of the trail

You will count all the memories where love did not fail

And the times when your love was all that you knew...

And remembering your promise is what brought you through

For it is not a word, spoken, it is there in your heart

It goes on forever, and back to the start

You can never be told love, it is something you know

When, one day, you see the bridge ... built in the snow.

What a wonderful poem. You brought love from all angles close to home. I enjoyed it very much.

Aww, Lissa, I am glad I finally got over to your page. Your poem is beautiful, and reminded me of my husband and me. You have painted the picture of marriage so well, with a lovely rhythm. Love it! Keep writing and welcome to Hubpages! I am going to share your poem.
