Mama's Hand

When I look back in time to when I was six years old

The vision of my mama seems so clear

And I thank the Lord in Heaven for the memories that I have

Because with them I know she's always near.

I recall the time when I was set to start my life in school

How she rushed around just trying to prepare

She woke me up and fed me, and she made sure I was dressed

And that I had brushed my teeth and combed my hair

But the thing that sticks out most to me, about that special day

Is the way she held me close and the words she had to say

I'll be right here when you get home, but son before you go

There's one thing now that I must share, that I want you to know

I love you son, but trust me, there is one who loves you more

So if you get afraid son, you just call upon the Lord

It's hard for me to let go of your tiny little hand

But I know the Lord is watching for my tiny little man

He will be there right beside you

Where ever you may go

He'll hold your hand and guide you

He will lead you safely home

The years went rushing by so fast

As I grew into a man

And the day had come

I had to let go of my mama's hand

As the memories raced inside my mind

I tried hard to prepare

I held her close and took her hand

And tried not to be scared

As I looked into her loving eyes,

And tears streamed down my face

I searched for words of comfort

As my heart inside would ache

But then it came so clear to me

just what to say and do

I said mom there's something I must share

And this I learned from you

I love you mom, but trust me

There is one who loves you more

And if you are afraid mom

You just call upon the Lord

Mom it's hard for me to let go

Of your loving, tender hand

But you have served the Lord

And you prepared your little man

To know that He's beside you now

When ever you must go

He'll hold your hand and guide you

And He will lead you safely home

And with eyes so full of love

just as all the times before

She looked around as if to say

Don't ever shut the door

For it will lead you home son

To one who loves you more than all

When ever you must go son

To answer when He calls

I'll be right there when you get home

But son before I go

There's just one thing now I must share

That I want you to know

I love you son, but trust me

There is one who loves you more

So if ever you're afraid or sad

You just call upon the Lord

It's hard for me to let go son

of your strong and loving hands

But I know the Lord is watching ore

My grown up little man

He will be right there beside you

Where ever you may go

He will hold your hand as I did

He will lead you safely home

Thank you Rebecca :-) It is comforting to know that when we have to let go, that the hand that leads our loved ones home is the same hand that leads us on. In knowing that... it is as if we are still holding the hand of the ones that helped lead us through life :-)

Thank you teaches12345 for the vote up and share. There is nothing quite as beautiful as a parents love and the faith that they pass down to their children. As a father, I hope to leave the same legacy to my children and grandchildren as my parents have for me.
